"How did Zara get there?" Levi leaned forward, his chin resting on his hand.
"I'm afraid thats her story to tell." Kat sighed and saw a smile tug the corners of Levis' lips. She was silent as she examined his features. He was beautiful in his own dark way.
"I don't think that witch killed your sister." He said, breaking the silence.
"I know she didn't. "
"Tell me, Kat, what's the importance of this necklace?" He leaned forward, softly taking the clover necklace in his hands.
"It was a gift from my sister. She said that bad luck was coming for our family and that the necklace would protect me."
Levi looked up, their faces were uncomfortably close.
"Did it?"
"I didn't think so at first, I thought she was being paranoid," Kats' voice got much softer, "Now, I'm not so sure."
Levi cocked his head, letting go of the necklace, "I have many questions for you Miss Adams, but I'll save them for another time."
Kat started to stand up but Levi softly grabbed her hand.
"I'm so sorry."
"Yeah, I get that a lot." Kat chuckled.
"No, not for what you told me, I'm sorry about what you left out." He watched as confusion struck her eyes.
"I- I didn't leave anything out."
Levi searched her eyes for a lie but came up short.
"Kat Have you ever experienced memory loss?"
"Memory loss?" She took her hand away from Levis. Leaning away from him, "No. Why would you ask that?"
"Just a question." He gave her a sympathetic smile, "Come on, Chase and Zara are a bit too quiet."
Kat shook off the weird moment and followed Levi to the second level of the house.
They walked down a long hallway of rooms to a black door at the end. Levi entered a four-digit code into the keypad. He pushed it open and saw Chase leaning against the wall, arm crossed, smirking.
"Oh hey, guys. She has been gawking for the past twenty minutes. "
Levi smiled as Kat walked into the room, examining every inch.
"Welcome to our ammo room Kat." Levi softly laughed at the two girls reactions. Most of the stuff was spell related since that's the only way to kill most witches. If you were feeling lucky, a headshot will keep them down. Three of the walls were covered in an assortment of guns and knives. Needless to say, the girls spend a good hour looking over everything.
Levi and the girls were sitting in the living room, making conversation.
"I made deviled eggs!" Chase beamed as he brought a plate of deviled eggs in.
"It happens to be the only thing he knows how to make." Levi said.
They all laughed but welcomed the food. The rest of the night was filled with board games and a bit too much alcohol.
"Alright well, I'm headed to bed." Kat sighed happily as she changed into a tank top and shorts.
~~
Halfway through the night, she felt a presence in her room, she sat up to see Levi sitting crosslegged at the end of her bed.
"Levi what are you doing?! She whisper-yelled. "
"Those scars you were talking about. They're old and deep. Like they were continually reopened, or battle scars, or both. And your eyes, they're old. Theyve seen horrible things. Something is wrong with you Miss Adams, and I intend to find out what it is. Tell me, Kat, have you ever been hypnotized?"
"Yes."
"Really?" He scooted closer to Kat, never looking away from her eyes.
Geez what's up with this guy and his intense eye contact? she thought.
"Yeah, at the coven... It was more demonic hypnotism than anything."
"Hm. Would you mind if I put you under hypnosis?"
"Yes, I would mind. I mean we don't even know each other. Don't most people wait for hypnosis until the third date?" She smirked, fidgeting with the seam of the blanket.
"Ah what was I thinking," Levi facepalmed dramatically, "You're right of course."
An awkward silence befell them. Both of their eyes dropped, not knowing what to say or do next.
"Well, I'll let you get back to sleep. Sorry for disturbing you. Goodnight Miss Adams."
"Why do you call me that?"
"My um," Levi awkwardly cleared his throat and rubbed the back of his neck, "It's a long story. Someday you might just hear it. Goodnight Kat." He smiled softly before quietly walking out of the room.
He was right though, those scars had haunted her. She knew something was very wrong with them. But memory loss? She had no gaps in her memory, that's how it works. She could remember everything, every haunting horrible memory, she wished she had memory loss, that she couldn't remember finding her sister body, mangled and deformed. How it was deemed a suicide she would never know. Yet on her funeral, she looked perfect, too perfect. Spells were involved, she knew it, her parent knew it but denied it still. Maybe spells had to do with her scars No, she would remember, unless she couldn't.
Kat sighed and laid down, secretly wishing that Levi would've stayed and told her his story. Something about him intrigued her. He wasn't cocky like Chase, he was confident but he was humble with himself. He was intense, and silently strong, like an anchor she had been longing for.
Whoa whoa whoa, I just met this dude, chill out midnight thoughts. Geez, I need to control myself before I start making up fake romantic scenarios.
She rolled her eyes at herself a fell asleep.
~~~Kats' dream below~~~
"Again!" A deep voice yelled.
Kat screamed in pain, yelling as she swung a sword. She felt a blow to the back of her head, she yelled and dropped to her knees. She was burning up, sweat dripping from her bloodied face.
"Again, scum!" The voice yelled in her ear, making it ring.
"I-I can't, please stop, I can barely stand!" She cried as she felt a blade sting her cheek. The voice scoffed in disgust.
"And to think you want to be a knight."
