For the first time, George looked nervous. It may seem like a normal human function, but he wasn't just an ordinary person. No one in the room was normal. They were the country's heroes. The ones who went into danger first. They had no time for nerves. The popular superhero looked to his wife for encouragement before speaking to his peers.
"Thank you all for showing up. I know this was called last minute," he started off. All supers eyes were on him, wondering what would cause the great Captain Quake to call on them. "I'm sure you all are familiar with my nemesis, Mirage. He and a few others have gotten ahold of the majority of the people in this room's secret identities."
"Quake, you can't be serious," his long time friend Copy Cat exclaimed. Her and the rest of the supers murmured in agreement, fearing the worst.
George tried to settle the room but their outrage rang louder and louder by the second. He looked to his wife, Nora for assistance. She raised her hands, which surrounded themselves in white energy, blinding everyone.
"Everyone needs to remain calm. I know this is scary but that's why the Defenders exist. We will protect each other just like we do every day people."
"It's not just the people I'm worried about. What about the government?" Viper asked. His slit eyes were wide as he stared at Captain Quake.
"We shall worry about that when the time has come," Nora said. "Now, I'm sure others have something to bring to us."
Siren hesitantly stood from his seat. "I believe there are a group of low listers planning a heist at the children charity event in New York." The others appeared to be halfway listening to him as he discussed details. It would most likely be like this for the rest of the night.
"Can anyone provide their services next week?" George asked anyway.

The supers waved goodbye to their two as White Rocket and flies off with Captain Quake in her arms. George always hated flying. He was a grounded person at heart. So unlike his wife who loved the feeling of the wind against her face and the endless sky for her to explore. He survived the flight by looking at her bliss face. Family was everything to them. That's why they plan to retire in a couple of years. They loved being heroes but their two children meant more.
When they touched down in their backyard their children immediately ran out to greet them. George picked up their daughter and spun her around.
"Stop Dad! You know I get dizzy quickly," Akilah giggled. The eight year old was a spitting image of her mother. Their espresso brown skin, midnight black hair, and dark brown eyes contrasted to his fair skin with dark blond hair and light brown eyes. It was by chance that their older son, Jordan had his features of wide eyes and small ears but had his mother's skin and hair.
The kids allowed their parents to change before they settled down on the couch to have a movie night. They relaxed in between their parents. "So when can we go to the meetings?" Jordan asked with batted eyelashes.
Nora ruffled his hair with a chuckle. "You have to be a superhero to get invited."
Akilah's eyes went wide. "When can we be superheroes?"
Their parents shared a hard look before responding. "Well sweetheart, that won't be for a long time."
The children sighed in disappointment. It was their dream to be just like their parents. It meant everything to the both of them. But if it were up to their parents, they would never get the chance.
