My name is Emily and I wanted to write a very truthful side of what it is like becoming a bride. Before I start my long story that is still continuing as I type, I want to properly introduce myself.
I got in engaged to the love of my life, Jon. It was February 21st of 2017. By the time we get married of February 21st 2020 we will be together for 8 years. If you have read my previous book of poems entitled, Mr. Awesome. Then you have already experienced a huge part of my love story.
Jon and I met the classic high school way but every love story is different. We met because the school counselor moved the table my friends and I usually sat at, boom I sat down in front of the man I would be marrying 8 years later. I can deeply explain that day, February 13th 2012. Just a few days before Valentine's day. When I looked into Jon's eyes, my life flashed before me. It gave me chills that day but I also didn't want to say anything because I would be the crazy way too attached girl. Nevertheless, he wouldn't give me his name, we wrote on a napkin that I still have in a scrapbook. He wrote his name, Mr. Awesome. Hence where my book of poems got its name. He was a senior and I was a sophomore. I was waiting on Valentine's day for Mr. Awesome to get me a carnation from school but it never arrived. He was very shy at first.
Fast forward to our first date which was yet another surprise. He had no car, I drove. He also sprung on me he had no cash, I bought my own dinner and felt bad so I shared it with him. All these great reasons to dump the guy but yet I just held on. He was someone I couldn't let go of, even though he had physically nothing to offer. Later in the story I will discuss my monster- in law experience which explains why he had nothing.
We have grown so much together and I am so excited to see what is next for us. I don't want this story to come off discouraging to anyone getting married, love stories are the most beautiful pieces of history we make.
