October stared down at a newspaper with her friend Paige, looking over apartment vacancies for their friend, Carly. So far, they haven't found anything that would fit Carly's price range.
"There's a place in Tribeca for 3,000." Paige pointed to a list, chewing on a fry.
"That's still too expensive." Carly sighed, looking dejected.
"The money I saved up won't cover two months' rent."
"I can dip into my trust fund." October offered, tapping her manicured nails on the table. "My dad's not a billionaire for nothing."
"No way, October." Carly shook her head, taking a sip of her soda. "I need to do this on my own."
"I could use some of that trust fund, October." Paige slyly smirked.
"Doubt it." October laughed, stealing one of Paige's fries. "You're on a scholarship. Plus, your mom's totally loaded."
"I'm gonna have to work every second I'm not in class until graduation." Carly interrupted, the girls turning back to her.
"Carly, don't even think about not going." Paige pursed her lips.
"I'm not." Carly exclaimed, sighing again.
"Good." Paige grinned. "Because you know how proud I am of you."
"Me too." October clapped her hands together excitedly. "An internship at InStyle magazine is awesome!"
"It's just an internship." Carly shook her head.
"Again, at InStyle magazine!" October proclaimed, her eyes lighting up. "It's a huge deal."
"Would you rather stay at the Waffle House as a waitress forever?" Paige teased.
"No thanks." Carly grumbled.
"Exactly." October smirked, knowing that her and Paige had gotten through to her.
A presence interrupted the current conversation and October looked over to see it was Wade, Carly's boyfriend. She liked him, unlike her own boyfriend did. She thought he was sweet, although he was branded as a "hick" by two of her friends.
"Hey, babe." Wade greeted, pecking Carly on the forehead.
"Hey." Carly smiled, her mood brightening.
"Sorry, there were these two drunk rednecks wrestling in the bathroom." Wade signed, pointing behind him.
"Really?" Carly smirked slyly, not believing his story.
"There's no rednecks in New York." Paige smirked too, folding her arms on the table.
"No. There's not." Wade smiled a little, although it resembled more of a grimace.
After sensing the tension between the couple, Paige decided to leave the couple to chat, although October was focused on her magazine.
"I'm gonna go see what Blake's doing." Paige sighed, pushing herself up from the table. "He seems to like that car more than me nowadays."
Paige whacked October on the shoulder and the girl looked up, confused. Paige nodded to the couple and October glanced at them, both of them looking at her awkwardly. She took the hint and left the table too, although she went to order a soda for herself.
As she took the soda into her hands, she felt an arm wrap up around her waist and pull her along. She looked up to see it was Nick. She could only smile, taking a sip from her drink as she let him lead her.
"Get that camera out of my face, Dalton." October deadpanned, lowering the cup from her mouth.
"It's not on you." Dalton shrugged, although it clearly was.
"You think I'm blind?" October turned her head and glared at him.
"If you don't move it, I will snap it in half." He took the hint and quickly shut it, shoving it into his pocket. She smirked, happy that she knew how to make him squirm. She disconnected herself from Nick, who protested, to go and sit back with Carly and Wade. She grinned happily at them and they smiled back.
"So, what do you think guys?" Wade said awkwardly as Dalton and Nick took a seat. "Gonna be a sweet game tomorrow, huh?"
Nick laughed mockingly, causing October to roll her eyes. "Yeah."
Dalton lifted up his camera again, focusing it on Carly.
"Dalton, please don't film me."
"What?" Dalton furrowed his eyebrows, acting innocent. "I'm not filming now."
"The red light is on." Carly sighed.
Nick pushed the camera down, sighing heavily. "Put the camera down. She doesn't like having people up in her face. She folds under pressure."
"You got something to say to me?" Carly snapped, narrowing her eyes at her brother.
"No, I think you've already spoken enough for the both of us, don't you?" Nick said sarcastically, a grimace set deep on his face.
"Alright, timeout." October exclaimed, grabbing Nick's arm and pulling him up with her.
"Nick, stop antagonizing your sister. Dalton, just because you have a massive boner for Carly doesn't mean you get to film her if you're not filming me or Paige. When she says put the camera down, you put the goddamn camera down."
Carly and Wade stared at October in surprise with Nick letting out a laugh at her scolding of Dalton. She shoved her elbow into his gut, causing him to cough and stop laughing. She just rolled her eyes.
