Ch.1

Billy woke up in cold sweat after having another nightmare. He lifted himself up on his elbows while he lit a cigarette.

"Dragon." Said a monotone voice coming from behind his right shoulder.

"What?" He questioned while he turned his head.

"Dragon." Sunshine said as she pointed to the smoke falling from Billy's lips. Billy laughed to himself as he stood up from his bed. Sunshine had shoulder length black hair and fair skin. She was on the shorter side, about 5 feet, and was incredibly skinny. Billy gave her that nickname due to her hazel eyes that reminded him of the sun. He found her on a cold day in November and brought her back to Hopper's old cabin.

"Not a dragon. Cigarette." He said with a tired sigh. He grabbed sunshine's hand and walked out of the room and into the kitchen. Sunshine sat down at the table and played with the hem of her white dress that had red flowers across the top. The dress hung loosely on her because of how sick she was. Billy always made sure to double her amount of food for every meal.

"What's a ci-cigarette?" She stammered out to Billy.

"Why don't you make it your word for the day."

Sunshine smiled to herself while Billy made her breakfast. Billy always made sure she ate four bites to his one.

Billy took a bite of his eggs.

"Your turn sunny." He said as he turned on the television, but also kept a close eye on her. He watched as her shaky hand placed 3 bites of oatmeal into her mouth.

"Same thing. Over and over." She said with a gross look on her face.

"Remember what we agreed on? Once you gain 30 pounds, you can have more variety in your diet." Billy said with a sigh while looking at her protruding cheek bones.

"One more bite." He purred in a hushed tone. Sunshine took another bite of the oatmeal and swallowed.

"Let me see." Billy demanded while holding sunshine's cheek. He watched as she opened her mouth to prove she swallowed her food. Billy finished his food in one last big bite.

"Now u pumpkin." He said.

"Sunshine. I thought sunshine." Sunshine chopped out.

"Yes, your name is sunshine, but I also call you other things." Billy smiled. "Like when you call me dad. You know my real name, you just decide to call me that." He finished. "Now finish your food. It's getting cold."

Sunshine awoke from her nap to the sound of groaning. She always sleeps in Billy's bed so he can keep a close eye on her. She walks out to Billy lifting a weight, which he usually let her join. He would have Sunshine stand against his stomach and put her hands on the middle of the bar and his would go on the outside. He was the one who lifted the whole weight, but he knew it made her feel powerful.

"Dad?" Sunshine croaked as she exited the bedroom. Billy smiled and signaled her over to him. He put the cigarette out in and ash tray before putting his hands on either side of you on the bar. He had to lift it half way because he was a foot taller than her and his half way was her full way.

"Wow Sunshine. You may just be the strongest person I know." He cooed making her giggle. Her giggle of melted gold filled the room until there was a loud knock the wooden door of the house. Billy quickly turned off the music after putting the weight down. Sunshine frantically held onto his arm.

"It's ok pumpkin. You know where to go." He reassured before lifting up the floor board as she crawled in.

"I love you daddy." She said with a scared tone in her voice.

"I love u to Sunshine." He sighed, quickly closing the floor board and putting the rug back over it.
