"What does color look like?" Zak asked his mother, attempting to imagine color in his mind, yet finding it impossible.
"It is difficult to explain, Zak, especially if you don't have anything to refer to." His mother tried to explain. Zak's eyes fell to the floor, his mood very clearly saddened. His mother quickly noticed his change in mood, and decided to give her best effort at explaining.
"Right now, everything in your eyes is different than how they really are. You only see things based off of light." She pointed to the flame on the seasonal pinecone scented candle neatly placed on their living room table. "You see how that flame is lighter than everything else in the room?" Zak nodded with confidence, his mood lifted at the idea of discovering what color looks like.
"That is the color white." She said, then moved her finger towards the tv screen, which was currently shut off. "That color is black, as there is no light." Zak's eyes widened in amazement.
"Now, color means that each object has their own respective hue, and it isn't just black, white, or the shades in between. There's many more colors that you cannot even begin to comprehend unless you have seen it." His mother explained.
Zak's eyebrows quivered with confusion. "Why can you and my sister see color, but not me?" Zak asked, his voice raising in pitch.
"Well, I started seeing color the day I met your father." She said, a smiling growing on her face. "And your sister, I assume her soulmate is someone she met at school. She just doesn't know who yet."
"So I must meet my soulmate in order to see color?" Zak's curiosity was driving him insane.
"Yes, and it could happen now or many years from now.. but whenever it happens, you'll know the wait was worth it."
As he soon discovered, the wait was definitely worth it.

"As I promised months ago, I'd be willing to meet up with you and A6d somewhere other than Vidcon, which is located in California, and requires me to fly to on a plane." Darryl stated calmly, propping his phone on his computer desk at the perfect angle to edit while simultaneously talking to Zak.
"Vincent just flew out here and back to France 4 months ago, I'm not sure if he'd be willing to come again without a specific cause besides meeting the one and only BadBoyHalo." Zak chuckled in an attempt to tease Darryl. He was sat at his computer chair, with one of his legs tucked up to his chest. He twiddled with the cord of his headset while waiting for Darryl's response.
"So you're saying it would just be us meeting up?" Darryl asked.
"I mean, yeah. We don't live that far away from each other, and I really wanted to be able to meet you at Vidcon, but of course you are afraid of planes." Zak teased, hoping to convince the stubborn man.
"I would not be opposed to meeting you, as long as we stay in state of Florida and I am not obligated to board any flights whatsoever." Darryl stated.
"Perfect. Sounds like a plan. See you next week, baldy." Zak said, an undefeatable smile plastered on his face.
"Wait, wait, wait, hold on, we still have so much to plan.. Where are w- OH MY GOODNESS!" Darryl slammed his hand on his desk at the realization that Zak had hung up on him before establishing a plan. I woudn't expect much more from that little muffin. He thought to himself, failing to avoid the smile forming on his face.

Darryl: i'm on my way. i'll be there in about 2 1/2 hours.
Zak: can't wait <3
Darryl: >.>Zak checked his phone for probably the 70th time in the past 2 1/2 hours, re-reading the same message over and over again as a result of the anticipation gnawing at his heart. Any minute now. His hands were shaking, his palms sweaty. He was pacing back and forth across the room, his mind racing. He wasn't nearly this anxious when Vincent had come to visit.
Ding dong.
Zak's heart dropped to his stomach as he heard his doorbell ring. He knew exactly what this meant: Darryl was here.
He stood there for a moment, entirely dumbfounded on what to do. The doorbell rung once more as Rocco barked repeatedly at the door, causing Zak's heart rate to beat even more rapidly than it already was. He tried his best to restore calmness, atleast externally, before approaching the door.
He took a deep breath and turned the knob, pulling the door open.

• 8:49 pm •A breeze drifted into his home the moment he opened the door, catching him slightly off guard as he saw Darryl stood in front of him. His eyes travelled from the man's shirt to his face, his eyes immediately locking on to the Darryl's.
Green.
8:49 pm was the time when things were no longer black and white.
Green.
Zak found himself lost in Darryl's eyes, staring deeply into the forest of depth staring back at him. His eyes seemed to be saying something to him, something like: I know what this means too.
Darryl then reached forward, pulling the shorter boy closer to his chest in a tight embrace. The two stood like that for awhile, silent and lost in the warmth of each other, all while admiring the world around them from a new perspective.
Darryl loosened his grip, meeting his forehead with Zak's. The two boys closed their eyes, foreheads touching, the biggest smiles on their faces, and still yet to speak a single word to one another.
Their worlds were different now. Not only did they finally understand the beauty of color, but they felt more complete, as if they had each found the last remaining piece of a puzzle. Neither one of them wanted to let go of that moment.
Mom, you were right. The wait was worth it.
