three; the first day

I awoke to the sounds of pots and pans being moved around.

I got up from my uncomfortable position on the floor and stretched my arms before running a hand though my blonde hair.

"Ah! You're awake. We have a very busy day." mum chirped once she saw me enter the kitchen.

I had only managed to get four hours of sleep.

I helped Mum unpack everything in the kitchen. Dad was busy organising the bedrooms.

Five hours later and the kitchen, bathroom, study and all four bedrooms were furnished and organised, the only room left was the living room.

While dad carried in a mahogany coffee table, I helped mum set up the TV.

"Mum? Are they the people that lived here before us?" I asked, looking in the direction of the picture frames whilst untangling some wires for the TV.

Mum's usual smile, dropped into a more sympathetic look.

"They're the William's. That girl there, poor girl, she died last December. I can't even contemplate how her parents feel." mum said.

"Sh-she's dead?" I stuttered.

"I know, it's awful. Her parents packed up and got out of this town as soon as possible, too many memories." mum added.

"How did she d-." I said, before being interrupted.

There was a loud bang.

"Dad?! You OK?" I shouted in alarm.

Dad came into the room.

"Yeah? You all right Luke?" he asked, concerned.

"I heard a loud bang, just thought it was you." I slowly, confusingly replied.

"I didn't hear anything, it wasn't me anyway." Dad said.

I looked to mum. She was arranging cushions on the couch as if nothing happened.

There was definitely something hidden and interesting about this house and this town.
