LYSSA WALKED DOWN THE hall and purposely didn't watch where she was going. "yo, wha- oh hey lyssa" the short, but not too short teenage boy said. "hey jahseh" lyssa said batting her eyelashes at the boy. "can you not this year" he said. "can't i not what?" she said 'cluelessly'. "every year you do this thing, where you won't leave me alone" he said.
"what do you mean?" she asked innocently. "i mean-" he began getting cut off. his bestfriend walked over completely ignoring the fact that he was talking to lyssa. "aye man w'sup" stokeley said dapping jahseh up. "nothing man" jahseh said. lyssa furrowed her eyebrows, what did he mean 'nothing man' if they were just talking?
"that boy steven got his new car bro come check it out" stokeley said. "alright" jahseh walking off with his friend. lyssa's blood boiled. with her fist clenched, she walked to the library and sat at an empty computer desk. she unzipped her bookbag rather aggressively and pulled out her blank composition notebook.
she opened it up and sat it on the table. she placed it on the table then got a pen out of her purse. she clicked her pen and wrote down 49 states. then she crossed out all the states that bordered florida and georgia. she smiled as she did so and circled the states that nobody really knows. she titled the page 'L&J's new hideaway'. when she finished she put her notebook back up and cracked her knuckles.
she zipped her bookbag back up and walked back outside the library. once she was out, she overheard conversation from a girl. a coversation from a girl she envied. jahseh's girlfriend. of five years at that. they started dating in eighth grade and have been inseparable since. "so we finally took it to the next level" she gushed, seemingly reminiscing the act that took place. "so happy for you guys, i know you both were waiting for the right time" another girl said.
"he told me when we graduate, he wants to marry me" was the last thing lyssa heard, before she stormed out to the courtyard. a mix of emotions flew through her. she was mad, sad, disappointed, happy, and encouraged. mad that he didn't save himself for her. sad that he went that far with his girlfriend before she had the chance to carry out her plan. disappointed that he blatantly disregarded her feelings towards him. happy that he was happy. encouraged to make him hers, but sooner than planned.
