Hiccup has somehow managed to balance himself with one leg on a very un-sturdy looking table and one leg (or metal leg) on a also un-sturdy looking chair. He is holding his son, Nuffink, and his daughter, Zephyr, is standing on a couch.
Astrid walks into the room, saying, "Hiccup, dinner is- what are you doing?!"
Hiccup gives a weak smile and is about to say something when Nuffink and Zephyr both say, at the same time, "The floors are lava!"
This, however, startled the poor dragon rider, causing him to jump a bit at the sound of their voices. This caused chaos. Feeling that the un-sturdy furniture would soon no longer be holding them, Hiccup tossed his kids to the couch, them giggling all the way. Hiccup then took the fall, ending up underneath 10 books, 5 of which held up a lap table each, also on top of the poor husband, and the pot of astrids(a type of flower Astrid is actually named after) that fell over while Hiccup tried to vainly gain his balance. The chair happened to stay in the same place however, that is until Hiccup accidentally knocked it with his metal leg. Hiccup again attempted to get up, only to have more books fall on top of him.
Both of his kids were giggling like crazy, and at this point Astrid was convinced she was married to an idiot. Eventually he sighed and said, "Could I have some help here?"
"Nah, I think you're fine." Hiccup glared at nothing, seeing his wife wasn't gonna help him in the slightest. Thinking of a solution, Hiccup jerked his head to his kids, looking at them in hope. Still giggling however, they noticed not that he even so much as turned his head towards them. Throughout the commotion, the dragons decided to come and investigate, Toothless immediately seeing his master's predicament and saw an opening to lick Hiccup's face half to death.
Stormfly, terribly influenced by Toothless's actions, decided to "help out" and knock over even more books with her tail (not on purpose, but it definitely didn't help) causing the little breath Hiccup had gained to be lost once again. Hiccup attempted again to shove some of the books off of him, but as he couldn't see from Toothless licking his face he was again unsuccessful. Astrid took Stormfly outside so that Hiccup didn't get crushed by getting more books and other various objects knocked onto him.
Hiccup finally managed to get Toothless to stop licking his face, and when he was again able to breathe, he said, "Hey, kids, if you get your poor old father out from under these books he might take you out for a ride on Toothless over here."
The children immediately perked up, however still stifling laughter. They jumped off the couch, grabbing a fish from the kitchen to lure Toothless out of the way. However, as children often do, they had a very short attention span, and all attention was now on the Night Fury. The children and Astrid were outside, enjoying their time with their companions, leaving Hiccup with his chin in his hands, being propped up by his elbows, on the very uncomfortable wooden floor.
Hiccup sighed. "Well, might as well try again. Couldn't hurt right?" Hiccup talked to himself, seeing as his entire family was leaving him for some stupid overgrown lizards. This, however, proved to be a worse idea than just staying where he was, as the books shifted into even more uncomfortable places by his ribs and jabbing into his back. Needless to say, he just grabbed the closest book and decided to read it. Hiccup was laying on the floor still, reading the book he had grabbed, which had turned out to be quite boring. He felt as though he may fall asleep until he heard muffled voices and tried to listen to what they were saying.
"Where is he?"
"I don't know, ask him!"
"I can't, I don't know where he is!" It sounded like the twins, and Hiccup sighed. If it was the twins, he would be stuck there forever. He just lay his head down, trying to ignore the jabbing pains of books stabbing into his body, and waited for the twins to find him. Of course, there are always times when sarcasm comes in handy. This would be one of those times. When the twins found him, they were only able to do so because the kids had pointed them in the right direction, only doing so because they had suddenly remembered the position their father was probably still in. Astrid laughed while the twins just looked confused. Hiccup just kept waiting until the twins had checked everywhere in the house except the room Hiccup happened to be in.
