*Ashton's POV*

I am a liability.

"Honey, breakfast is ready! Careful when coming down the stairs."

I am a burden.

"Are you coming down?"

I can never make a difference.

I have no significance.

...

I would be better off dead.

I'm woken up by Mum's knocks on my door.

"Honey? Are you okay?" she says in that familiar concerned voice.

I stare at my reflection for a bit longer before answering.

"Yeah I'm all good. I'm just getting ready to shower," I lie.
I then walk out of the, bathroom closing the door behind me. I grab my backpack from my room and walk downstairs to find a feast waiting to be eaten on the dining room table. I'm hungry, to be honest. But this is excessive.

"Are you going to eat anything, honey?" mum said slowly.

I grabbed an orange and walked out the door swiftly before any objection. Michael was waiting outside of the house in his car.

I don't live far from school, but it's not worth walking to school even at a slow pace.

"Hey," Michael stated.

"Hi," I responded blankly.

"Ashton, did you eat anything?"

Michael knows I don't eat often. He always tells me I'm beautiful and he means it. But he's only saying it out of pity.

I held up an orange in front of Michael. He just smiled and shook his head and began to drive.

At the end of school I walked to the football field by the school. The team was warming up and I was early as usual. I did my homework as the boys practiced for the game on the bleachers.

"The faggot is back," I heard a boy say.

"He comes here every day for no reason. He's probably here to check out our asses," I heard a few agree in the distance.

By now, I'm used to this. But sometimes it gets to me.

"He probably cuts," one said.

The truth is, I've always wanted to play football. I used to watch it with my dad before he left. But I can still dream and watch football even though I'll never be able to actually play. And maybe I am here to see their asses, so what?

I heard some loud girls by me cheer extremely loudly for the players. They screamed even louder when a boy winked at them.

For some reason, the boy looked familiar.

"Who is that?" I asked a girl next to me.

"Oh, that's Luke Hemmings. He's supposed to be the most attractive and wanted guy in the school. He's also the team captain," she replied, giving me a little more information than I expected.

She had black hair and a purple hoodie. She had her hoodie on with black, smooth hair over her chest. Her eyes were round-ish and had a hazel like color to them. She wore black, skinny jeans with stars written on them with pen from her thighs to her knees. She had black vans with New York City painted on them creativley.

"What's your name?" she asked, noticing me starring at her.

I didn't respond.

"I'm Julie, the 'school lesbian'; as you may know." she sighed.

" I'm Ashton, the 'school gay'..." I rolled my eye in sarcasm.

She smiled, "Well, we both learned something today, I guess. Do you come here often?"

"Every day, actually,' I replied.

"Same, how about we become best friends?" I couldn't tell if he wa sbeing sarcastic or not. She pulled out a piece of paper with her number on it from her bra.

"Do you just keep papers with your number on them in your bra?" I asked, staring at her boobs.

"I keep a lot of stuff in my bra, Ashton. Do you need chap stick? Doritos? Hand sanitizer?" She asked with a straight face.

I burned out in laughter, "I'll let you know if I need anything."

After exchanging my number with Julie's, I walked home. My house was only a few blocks away from the school. The buildings in my city are attached together with sidewalk and trees in front of them. There are cars but not a lot considering rush hour has passed. Some cars are parked in front of the buildings with people walking behind them, all seeming to have a place to go.

A bit later, I arrived home. I walked up to the door and opened it to find my mom cooking dinner with the TV on in the living room as she tried to watch it from the kitchen while chopping up vegtables for what looked like a side dish.

"Hi, hun! I'm so glad your home. Do me a favor and get the meat out of the refrigerator? We're having meatloaf tonight."

I did what she said and handed her the meat and walked upstairs. I opened the door and closed it behind me. I opened the window partly to let in some fresh air. Then I sat on my bed and did my homework.

I allowed myself to eat some dinner at the table tonight. I said I ate some of my friend's food at school and my mom believed me. Right now, I'm lying on my bed, scrolling through my Instragram feed. I received a text message from a random number.

"Hey, Ashton."

I starred at the text message for 5 minutes, contemplating wither I should reply or not.

AND that's it. Thanks for reading this to the end. Like the cliff hanger? I have a lot planned for this book and you should add this to your library to receive updates when I update this book, lmao. I will probably update a lot. I may update this several times a day one day. Or I may update this every other day. You'll never know...
