Mackenzie's first day and night had entirely consisted of just about nothing other than lying there, half asleep, waiting for this nightmare to end. However, now that he had woken up and found himself in the same place, he became skeptical and tried to stand up. To his surprise and horror, this was all very real. He was in the bottom of a crevice, in what seemed to be a desert, due to the sandstone walls and sand inside. There was no obvious way to leave the deep, dark hole and not wanting to worry too much, Mackenzie decided to sit down and breath.
About ten minutes had passed and just simply breathing had not managed to reduce his stress by any considerable amount. He studied his surroundings again and noted that there was a climbable wall about five or so meters from the bottom. With no way of getting up to this height however, he dismissed the idea and continued to survey the surroundings, in hope of finding any other way of leaving this thin but ridiculously deep ravine.
Much to his delight, he spotted a large boulder, suspended in an opposite wall, about five feet above the ground. With no way of climbing out other than the other wall he had discovered previously, he decided that his best option would be to move this boulder over to the wall and use it as a step up towards his almost guaranteed safety. Eagerly, he walked towards the boulder, certain that his intellect had saved him from this situation. It, however, was not that easy.
Although being remarkably tall, his above-average arm-span hardly reached each side of the boulder and he soon realised that with no leverage or grip, this colossal rock wasn't going anywhere. He tried everything from kicking and punching it to pushing and pulling it. After many failed attempts, he soon realised hunger and especially dehydration were setting in and their effects were clear. His dry mouth and lack of strength indicated that it was probably best if he stopped. The blazing sun was positioned perfectly in the middle of the sky, shining straight down into the thin, now quite bright crack that Mackenzie was stranded in. With no shade or shelter, he was forced to endure the scorching pain that the sun's searing heat brought upon him. Each drop of sweat was one less drop of water in his body and one drop closer to possibly death.
The heat wasn't even the worst part. He was completely alone.
