When Jeff's brother Liu first entered the mansion, I wasn't sure what to make of him. No one was, really. But within the first few hours of being there, he had successfully befriended most of murders, including myself. Unlike his little brother, Liu was quite a gentleman. He was polite, quiet, kind, and a charmer. I was already wondering if he was truly related to someone like Jeff.

Jeff stormed down the stairs, haulting at the sight of his big brother. Liu froze as well as Jeff's hateful eyes fell on him. Everyone instinctively took a few steps back, preparing ourselves for whatever was about to happen. But to everyone's surprise, Jeff didn't scream, or hit, or spit at his brother. Instead, he took a deep breath, looked away, and went back upstairs. Liu croaked his brother's name, but was not met with a reply. No one dared move or speak, afraid of what Liu's reaction would be.

I was the first to move or even breathe after Jeff left. I shuffled forward, quietly coming up behind Liu. My boldness was sudden struck, and quick to disappear as I shakily raised my hand. Gently, I rested my hand on Liu's shoulder, making him turn to look at me. His eyes didn't hold any emotions I would have expected. No anger or surprise or even fear. Just stone cold disappointed, masked by a layer of sadness. He forced a smile and thanked me for my obvious concern, but left to his room.

It had been almost a week since then, and it felt like neither of the brothers had existed in the first place. Jeff had only come out of his room a few times, and only for a moment before disappearing again. We quickly learned to not talk to him. Ben tried once and almost got murdered, quite literally, by his closest friend. We steered clear of him after that. Liu, on the other hand, hadn't been seen at all. It was like he hadn't come to the mansion at all. Everyone had tried to get him to come out of his room, but none succeeded. Some would knock at his door and beg him to come out until their throat's hurt. He wouldn't even reply. He would just wait until they left.

If either of the brothers were mentioned in conversation a deadly silence overtook us all. What were we supposed to say? We could mention our concern, but we all knew how concerned the whole mansion felt, what would voicing it do? Nothing. And we all knew it.

Finally, after a week of all of this, I had gotten so very, very tired of it. No matter how much of an asshole Jeff was, or how pissed off he got me, I missed him. And Liu was so nice, so fun to be around. I just wanted to talk to him again. I wanted the two to get along. Even if I didn't quite know their whole stories, or what they felt about each other, I just didn't want them to fight or lock themselves away. Especially not Liu. He just got to the mansion, I didn't want him feeling alone.

So I made my way to his room. I stood in front of his door, unmoving, unbreathing, for a few minutes. On his door were two simple words, written in black ink and neat handwriting, "Homicidal Liu." I repeated those words in my head, as if waiting for him to reply to my thoughts. But I gathered my courage and knocked on his door. Of course, he didn't answer. I sighed to myself. I didn't expect him to answer, but I was disappointed.

"Liu?" I questioned quietly. "Liu, it's Y/n, are you there?" No answer. "Please," I begged, "I don't expect you to just get over everything. I don't want you to just forget. But I just need to make sure you're okay. So please, just open the door. Or just reply. Even a simple word would help. Please..." I rested my head on the door. I almost tumbled over when it opened, showing a very tired-looking Liu. His eyes were red and puffy and had purple stamps beneath them, but there he was. I smiled and, without a single thought, hugged him tightly. He didn't move or reply for a bit, but soon, I felt his arm gently wrap around me too.

"Can you... Come inside?" He muttered into my hair. I nodded and pulled away, taking a seat in his bed while he closed the door. He joined me shortly after, sitting beside me on the matress. "I'm sorry I worried you. I just... I don't know what to do." He explained. I put a hand on his shoulder. Tears collected in his eyes. He tried to hold them back, tightly shutting his eyes. "I didn't expect him to react like that. I didn't know if he would scream, or fight, or swear at me. But I didn't expect him to look at me like I was scum and not even talk to me." He laughed humorlessly and tiredly, opening his tear-filled eyes and staring forward. "It's pathetic, isn't it?" A single tear slipped out and rolled down his cheek. I wiped it away and hugged him again.

"Of course it isn't. Jeff... He's always like this. He doesn't really like to think of his past or anyone in it. It's nothing against you. I hope you know that." Liu nodded, resting his head on mine. "No matter how much Jeff makes you feel like this, I'll be right here to remind you that it's not your fault." He pulled away.

"You promise?

"Yes," I nodded, "on my life." Liu smiled and kissed my cheek, making me blush and looked away. He laughed again. This laugh was much more happy than the last. So hopeful. "I promise." I mumbled.
