“This is ridiculous, we’ve looked into our clients inquiry and the photographs suggest otherwise”, Johnson’s solicitors said.
Dealing with solicitors or lawyers who had their job to for-fill by means of getting a large sum of money was one thing Castillo hated about their lives. Fortification and safety were always the two key components that he sought for his local community, but with the constant pestering of solicitors, such as the one walking by him to the interview room, who declined to let his client plead guilty was unquestionably a ticking bomb that would soon explode in Castillo’s mind. Castillo blood pressure was escalating at that precise moment; no words could describe his fury.
“Ah, but your client resisted arrest upon suspicion of being involved in the kidnapping of his daughter and other pressed charges. Not to mention the use of a deadly weapon” Castillo turns towards the solicitor “What really surprises me Mr Mallory, is that you’re representing a criminal, despite your awareness of the damage he’s done”.
The allotted interview room to the left of the corridor was a mere distance away, Steve stood at the door awaiting Castillo’s presence.
“You do realise once this gets to court, you’ll be ripped to shreds” the solicitor grinned, his treacherous smile short lived. Castillo rounded on him.
“Ah, that’s if it gets to court, Mr Smith”. Long gone was the tedious smile that just moments ago threatened to destroy Castillo. With that Castillo speeded ahead towards Steve.
“Afternoon sir, here’s your files and Miss Haven wants to see you ASAP; I thought I’d tell you in person.”
Grabbing the light blue folder Castillo nodded.
“You’ve got the wrong guy officer, I merely a victim” Johnson spoke across the interview room table. A sight Castillo visioned for days.
Producing a sealed plastic package from the bag, Castillo spoke “You’veinvolvement in the kidnapping of your daughter, used deadly weapons and resisting arrest. This is yours, isn’t it Mr Johnson?”
“Never seen it in my life before”. Johnson grinned. Castillo inched closer.
“Mr Johnson, if you can lie about the use of this weapon, I’m sure there is more to you than we’d initially anticipated, I’d be wise if I were you” he warned, “lying will only get you so far!” Johnson didn’t respond, not a twitch. “It hasn’t been checked yet, but I’m 100% sure your fingerprints are all over it, given that you fired at me, not once, nor twice but three times.”
“Wasn’t me that fired at you, it was the other guy, I took the gun from him last minute” Castillo twirked an eyebrow but continued speaking.
“Ah, you may remember you were standing directly in front of the window when you first aimed at me”
“Wasn’t me, that was him, I was trying to get away from him” Lies after lies, so irritating, Castillo thought.
“Also you fired again, whilst I was standing in the Alley way, almost shooting me”
“You have no proof”
“Makes me wonder Mr Johnson, where have you learnt to shoot? You’re aim was perfectly executed”
“Like I said before, it wasn’t me who fired at you”, Johnson sat as if he had no worry in the world, arms folded across his chest as if to say ‘Nobody can harm me!’
“If that’s true Mr Johnson, then why’d you run off when I confronted you at the street yesterday night?”
“Yeah, then I was scared, you came straight at me. Aiming your pistol in my direction. Anyone in my position would do what I did, its common sense”
“No Mr Johnson” Castillo retorted, “you ran because you knew getting caught would only result in a bigger situation for yourself. Not only would you lose track of your daughter but also get caught for attacking a police officer” Castillo continued “Deny all you want Mr Johnson we’ve got your finger prints all over the weapon”
“I told you before it wasn’t me” adamant and stubborn as ever, Castillo thought.
“Alright, let’s try something else then, who was that man?
“No idea!” Castillo raised an eyebrow, his face showing a clear sign of ‘Really?’
“Mr Johnson your daughter may not be safe, we can help you if you cooperate, right now denying your actions, and wasting our interview time will only have harsher consequences on the level of her danger” Castillo halted for a few seconds, hopefully the realism of the situation would sink in
Mr Johnson stayed silent for several minutes; he exchanged a quick look between his solicitors before facing Castillo. “Fine”
………………………
The moment Castillo set foot in Miss Haven’s office, she began roaring at him. “What the bloody hell were you thinking?” she sure wasn’t a woman who’d beat about the bush, “and not only am I talking about the damages to the cars and streets, I’m talking about disobeying my orders to inform.”
“Ma’am, Mr Johnson had a lot to lose, he wouldn’t have come quietly” Castillo responded, slightly scared as to where this conversation would lead to.
“Let me ask you an easy question Detective Castillo” she says looking him directly in the eye, “Did I give you the go ahead to follow your suspect?”
“No ma’am, but to be fair there was nothing to go by, no CCTV footage, not forensic evidence, in fact there was no evidence at all. Mr Johnson did a pretty good job of covering his tracks, but I almost caught two other suspects.” He tried to defend himself.
“Almost Castillo”, she interfered, her face red with rage. “One is too many! Two is a total fuckup!” She was fuming, her anger evident in her language, she rarely swore. “So you know what I’m going to do…” Castillo held his breath; nothing she choose was ever good. “I’m going to appoint PC A. Ralmes to assist you with this case” Anyone but him, Castillo thought.
“But ma’am, I’m capable of doing this on my own; I don’t need a guard dog watching my every move…”
“Have you finished?” she asked, an eyebrow arched, ultimately indicating that she’d heard enough and the discussion was over.
“Ma’am…” he interfered “this was the first case where we weren’t getting anywhere” Miss Haven nodded, then leaned back in the chair, “it was my only option”.
“I suppose I could let you off this once, based on your good initiative, but as much as I appreciate the minor achievements you’ve made so far, next time you inform me. I don’t care whether its half two in the morning, you let me know! Do I make myself clear Detective?”
“Yes ma’am”, Miss Haven waved her hand, signalling towards the door, he walked out releasing a shaky breath before closing her office door on his way out.
She was a pain in the arse, but he couldn’t blame her for doing her job, he made a slight victory with the information collated during the interview. Tomorrow was a big day ahead, and with the help of Johnson he was going to find his daughter and catch both criminals he’s saw last night. For now he was relieved to have dealt with ‘The Dragoness’.
