"And when I touch you
I feel happy inside
It's such a feelin' that my love
I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide
Yeah, you got that somethin'
I think you'll understand
When I say that somethin'
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand"I hummed along to the Beatles as I sipped my large coffee and made my way down the high street to the shops. My mom wanted to buy some flowers for the dining table to brighten it up so I offered to go get them from Marge.
I passed the laundromat, the butchers, the bakers, a corner store until I turned the corner to Marges flower shop. She had some out in the street today, with the prices next to the tin buckets filled with different single flowers. I pulled out my earplugs as I opened the door.
The familiar little door bell rang as it creaked open and Marge appeared from the back room to behind the desk."Good afternoon love! How are you? Alex was just in, you missed him by a minute!"
"Oh well I'm sure I'll catch him somewhere else. I'm doing well thanks, I was hoping you could help me choose some flowers for a dining table bouquet? My mom wants me to help brighten up the place."
As Marge put together a large bouquet, she talked to me about all the local gossip and things she overheard. I wandered around the store listening to her and occasionally pitching in. I moved along the wall to the back where the smaller plants stood, with a large cork board behind them. I peeked closer to see what was pinned on it.
A few newspaper articles about the store, some pictures of kids that could possibly be Marges grandkids and some posters about local events.
"Found my cork board then have you? Keep all the things I like to remind myself about on there, things that make me happy. Oh yes, and I think Alex came in here just to put a poster for his band concert soon! Silly me, I meant to tell you that straight away as I saw you, he told me to."
He told her to tell me about the concert?
I don't know how I didn't see it but on the left there was a A4 sized poster with "ARCTIC MONKEYS at MORLEY PUB on 5.7 at 7:30 PM" emblazoned on it. There wasn't anything else, just a little entrance fee note on the bottom right.
"Thanks for telling me Marge, I'll have to stop by there then."
"Yes you'll have to, he was very insistent on me remembering to tell you." She winked at me. "Boys, you know. And I'm sure lots of the children from the school will be there as well, so you'll meet some of his school mates!"
It was so cute how she called us children and the people coming to the concert his schoolmates, I don't think he would think of it as a very cool term but it was wholesome. She was so pure I loved it. I thanked her and paid for the bouquet.
I had taken a picture of the poster with my phone so I wouldn't forget the date, and when I pulled it up in my camera roll I realized the gig was tomorrow. Excitement filled my brain and I was giddily happy for a few moments until I began to wonder exactly why I was so excited? Maybe the possibility to meet new people? Or see the band? Or .. see Alex?
My phones ring tone announced itself and Leon's name flashed on my phone screen. Right, Leon. I picked up the phone and fell back on to my bed.
