Annie stares at Niklaus adoringly as he was pressed against her grave writing her yet another letter. I wonder when would he get tired of writing to me. She could see the intensity on his eyes as he wrote before he paused. Annie teared up as she saw Klaus sit in front of her grave and talk, talk about anything that he hadn't already told her.
She had never seen him so broken in all the days he had visited her. All she wanted to do was hug the living hell out of him, but she couldn't. As she began to leave, she heard him whisper ever so lightly. "If you are here with me Annie, please give me a sign, anything."
The female broke, would she risk herself for her friend or leave him alone for his sake. She made her decision and began to signal her presence by throwing a rock at Niklaus, he instinctively jumped and looked around for the source of mischief. Upon looking he saw a familiar face.
"Annie? What the hell?" Klaus said in shock. "Missed me?" She smiles and sat down by him staring at her grave. "How is this possible? Have you always been alive? Do you know how long I've mourned over you?" The man bombarded her with questions. "I do, you have been here nonstop for the past week writing me letters." She smiled while reading the letters.
"Are you dead?" Klaus asked playing with the grass on the ground. She nodded then continued, "I'm not able to find peace because something is holding me back." He nodded intrigued, "Whoever doesn't let you rest will die, I'll make sure of it." The girl smiled before laughing. "You, Niklaus, you're holding me back from my peace." She then found herself laying her head down on his lap for old times sake.
"Annie, I'm sorry, I should've saved you, I was so helpless, I could've at least called an ambulance." He sighed, he was contemplating if she should finally know the truth about her only friend, he shook his head and realized it was a horrible mistake. He never wanted Annie wrapped up in the supernatural world, all he ever wanted was a friend who normalized him and didn't see him as the villain.
"No need to apologize, maybe my death was already set in stone, why try and run from it? Plus, I know in this life, I'd have been nothing useful, I mean I never had any plans in life." "Don't say that, you would've been something brilliant." They both rest in a comfortable silence, each enjoying the other's company.
"Nik, I can feel myself slipping. I-I need you to release me, please, for both of our sakes." The girl grabbed his hand after sneakily placing something in his pocket. She soon faces him. "I can't do that, who else would be there for me like you? You were everything I ever wanted and I can't get over the fact that I could've saved you!" He exclaimed in her hair as he held her body tightly feeling her slip away.
"Niklaus Mikaelson, you are the reason my love for New Orleans continues to grow, I would've never seen such beauty in this place if I had not met you. Frankly you managed to slither your way into my life and helped me realize there's much more to life than just a pack of cigarettes. From the moment we met I knew that I needed you. I'll always be looking over you, but until then, I'll see you soon." Annie said as she slipped into a void.
Klaus allowed a single tear to slip from his eyes and soon began to speed home to hide those letters. He didn't know he could be this broken. Walking towards his library he reached into his pocket to pull out all his letters but something fell. He stored the letters away and reached down to grab what seemed to be a charm. It was Annie's favorite necklace. He smiled at the thought of her and promised himself he would move on for the both of them. He was going to miss his raven haired best friend.
