Chapter 1

Simone's POV:

I pulled up to set and I have my iced green tea and my mom by my side. Today is the first table read of this show that I'm gonna work in.

The show is a about the exonerated 5. Growing up in New York I always hear the story but this just brings a new light to it.

My mom and I walk in and I'm immediately greeted by Ava the director. I've known her for years.

"Oh my god, look who it is"
"Miss Simone brown. Come on and meet the cast" she said to me and directs me towards the rest.

"Guys this is Simone she's going to be playing Jharrel's love interest, Lisa" she said as she introduces me to the rest.

I see some familiar faces, some not so much.

They all greeted me and we sit down. Then some one walks in through the door rather quickly.

"I'm so sorry guys for being late. New York traffic ain't a joke" this handsome black boy saids as he rushes towards the rest.

"Oh it's no problem. We're just getting started" Ava said.

"So today, you will all be meeting the 5 men that made this come true"
"Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam and Korey Wise" she said as they walk in the room.

*During break*

After we all introduced each other and got to know the 5 men, we have a break before we continue.

I walk towards my mother and see she is conversing with an older woman.

"Hello my love. How was it" she asks me and smiled.

"It was good. We're just on break" I said back as I stand in front of her.

"Well that's good. This is Radoyka by the way" she saids and directs my attention to the woman next to her and I greet her.

"Hi nice to meet you. I'm Simone" I said and give her a hello kiss. ( idk of other people do this but Dominicans do this a lot when they greet people so yea)

" it's nice to meet you too. Your very beautiful" she saids and I smile thanking her.

I was about to compliment her back before the handsome black boy from earlier walks up to her and stands next to me. I think his names Jharrel or Jerome.

"Oh baby. This is Simone, she's Celine's daughter" she saids and points towards my mother and I.

"Oh hi it's nice to meet you" he says to my mom.
Then he turns to me.
"Hi. Aren't you my costar ?" He asks
"Oh um yea I play Lisa. You must play Korey?" I said and look at him.

"Yea yea I am. My names jharrel by the way"
that's his name I make a mental thought.

I smile and sit in between my mother and his mom. He sits next to me and his mom starts talking to him.

"How is it?" Radoyka asks her son.
"It's good I got to meet Korey and I got a small conversation with him." Jharrel says to his mom.

"What about you Simone. Did you get to meet your character?" She asks me and I just shake my head lightly.

"No I didn't. She's actually koreys ex girlfriend and she sadly passed away a few years ago" I said

"That's unfortunate" she says and I nodded.

"How did you know all of that" Jharrel asks me.

"Um before I auditioned I did a lot of research. I like to be informed when I do something as important as this" I said as I look up at him.

Our mothers have randomly wondered off somewhere so at this moment it's just us two.

"I respect that"  Jharrel said and I respond with a thank you.

I find my self staring at him trying to think. He looks very familiar.

"Sorry to ask but have you been in like a major movie before?" I asked him cause he looks very familiar.

"Uh yes I played Kevin in moonlight" he said and that's when it clicked.

"Oh my god yes that's where I know you from. I loved that movie" I said

"Really thank you. Yea it was ugh a blessing being able to be apart of it"

"What about you have you done any movies"

"Uh no I haven't done movies but I've been on tv shows" I say and look at him.

"Like which" he asks

"I've been on law and order and I'm the a main character in the show star" I said

"That's so cool what's the show about" he asks.

I gave him a brief explanation and he looked very interested.

"That's really good for you. I might start watching it" he said and I smile and nodded.

"I think you should" I said with a wink jokingly. We both laugh and Ava calls break over.

We walk back into the table read and learning about each other as well as going over the script and sharing more with the 5 men.
