The Fight

This is my own story and it is kinda long but bare with me. My creation. This is sorta about women's rights.  Enjoy!

It was an average day for Zelda as she walked down the street with her coffee in hand. She was on her way to school when she saw a woman yelling at an old man, something about discrimination for trying to help her get something off the kiosk shelf. As Zelda walked by she could hear the woman saying "Listen old man, just because I am a female does not mean you have the right to help me without asking! You don't have the right to assume I'm weak or need help just because of my gender!"

She could see the poor old man just shake, and the woman just wouldn't let him get a word in before she stormed away. Zelda just shook her head as she watched other women shook their heads at him, like they let one person decide that he was a bad person.

Zelda arrived at school a little while later thinking about what she saw and because of this she didn't see any of her friends saying 'Hi' around her. Finally one of her best friends- Desdemona had enough and slapped her.  Because of this Zelda snapped out of her thoughts and then she said hi.  Her friends asked her what was wrong and she answered truthfully. "This morning I saw woman telling off an old man just for thing to help her get something off a shelf."

Sadly a few of her female friends replied with "Good for her!", "I bet she didn't need help anyway!", Or "What's wrong with that?" Zelda sighed.

She was so disappointed in them,  and the even sadder part was that some of her guy friends agreed. Zelda walked to her first class-that just happened to be history. She got there just before the bell rang.

"Welcome Class", Zelda teacher Me. Night or Jordan outside of schools said with the biggest smile she could muster.  All Zelda did was roll her eyes at her teachers perkiness. "Today we will be talking about The Women's March." Most of the girls in her class cheered while the boys groaned because now the girls - including her friends - thought that they had evey right to mess with the guys. Zelda sighed and everyone around her noticed because she is someone who always uses words to express what she thinks no matter the situation. That's just what her personality is like.

"Hey Z, what's wrong?" he other best friend Blaze asked in a whisper.

"Nothing, just not looking forward to this class," she sighed.

Blaze looked even more confused. "Why?" he asked.

Then she retold what she had seen this morning.  "Wow..." Blaze has said.  Zelda just smiled sadly at her friend as she turned to listen to their class again.

As the class went on everyone had some different thoughts going on inside their head.  Ms. Night, the teacher, was gleefully teaching this subject in the hopes of making lots of future feminists. Desdemona was hanging off of every word being said while thinking about what Zelda had said,  but then she quickly pushed that thought away thinking 'she couldn't possibly be right.'  Blaze on the other hand was thinking that Zelda walked right and that woman shouldn't have yelled at the old man. And Zeldas thoughts were all over the place. She was thinking that people shouldn't do things like that,  but she was also scared about what her mother would think.

Thana Lee, her mother, a 7th generation feminist, was set firmly in her beliefs,  and no-one could change them. (Trust me, people have certainly tried.)

Anyway to continue, Zelda was listening to Ms. Night and abruptly raised her hand when she heard her say "Now class, remember women have always been oppressed and have the right to fight back," Ms. Night paused before she added "in any manner necessary."

Zelda thought it was different. She thought that women should be outspoken, but still be respectful no matter what's going on.  Unless their being attacked, then they have every right to fight back, but then again so does every one else.

Ms.Night called on her. "Yes Zelda," she paused, "Do you have something to add?" And in fact she did. And that's what she said too.

"In fact I do. What if the women of the world are abusing 'the right' as you call it to tell people their not weak? What if the person that their talking to hadn't done anything wrong and were just trying to be nice?"

Those questions had stumped her and the rest of the class, and consequently Zelda had asked these questions just at the end of class, just before the bell rang.  This left Ms. Night no opportunity to respond, so Zelda left the class, leaving everyone - including  herself - to ponder those question.

The End

So that was kinda long I know,  but I hoped you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reading!
