It may SAY chapter __ but there isn't actually chapters as of yet.

Chapter 1

Religion is one of the things that Ash'd never really thought about, what with how the majority of his life had gone. There were no questions about whether or not there was a God, or if there were gods, or even if there was just some cycle of rebirths that everyone was stuck with. No, since high school he hadn't had time to wonder about any of that.

Of course there were times where he'd prayed for something to happen-many times in fact, especially during his high school years-but it'd just been him going through the motions. Like someone saying "Holy Shit" or "Dear God" in a sentence, regardless of their actual religious convictions. It was just something that slipped out.

So while he wasn't religious in the least, he found himself wondering, not for the first time, who the hell had thought up a situation like this.

An explosion went off somewhere behind him, and he forced himself not to be distracted when he heard Ren's scream of pain, pushing himself forward. If he could only get at that bastard... if he could only just kill him and get it over with, THEN and only then would he allow himself the privilege to check on the others.

If there was a God, or even multiple gods, then there must be some skewed sense of humour up there for him to have made as many friends-to have been made a part of such a family-only to have one asshole, one bastard able to break it off as if none of it had mattered. Things were finally looking like they'd turn out to be okay, and this power hungry stronzo(fucker) just waltzes in and decides that it looks like a good setup, and tries to take it over! If he had come for it twenty years ago, he knew that he'd have given up his privileged position, his inheritance, in a heartbeat. But no, he'd worked up to the position, been forced through hell, and brought to care about what happened to the people who worked for him. They weren't just employees-they were family. How could he explain to someone like him that his family weren't just pawns, expendable to get at the other players pieces and only to be noticed if they have some use? No, judging by his tactics so farm he was willing to do anything, use anyone in order to get his way. Ash'd had a choice when that stronzo first proposed the merger, with decisions of the financial and economical issues mainly going to Ashand the political and militant decisions primarily to him. The deal had seemed ideal, yet something-aside fromMr. Clockk told him that he'd be making a colossal mistake by taking up this offer

He didn't ask for any of it, and was hard pressed to decide that, if he could go back-if he had the choice to take back any of what happened, would he change anything? Probably not... maybe... But Ash didn't have that option so that wasn't really an issue at the moment, except that that asshole just collapsed the north western main column, causing the ceiling to warp and buckle under the weight, crushing an unconscious Ron beneath x kilos of concrete.

After he dealt with this bastard he'd allow himself to be concerned with it, and there was Clay, moving to push the concrete off of Ron, so it was better. Not okay, but better. But shit, Clay got most of the concrete off, but one of the Minions just shot him. How many people have died so far? Easier question might be who's still alive... who of his adopted family had died in this fight so far; for there could be no doubt that a few had died already. He'd heard their death screams, felt them die, slip away from the world of the living...

Nothing was okay about this situation, and he had to wonder if there was, in fact, some place that people went to when they died, be it heaven, hell, nirvana or whatever, what would he say to his friends? Oh, sorry, I figured that I could save you guys after I killed Mr. High-and-mighty, sorry I got to you too late. And for that matter, if there was such a thing as heaven or hell, it wasn't necessarily a certain thing that he'd be going to the same place as the others. They did some wrong deeds, yes, but most were forced to choose between doing those things to help Ash himself, or... well... not.
