Test Driving Your Character

In 8th Grade English, we learned that one of the best ways to make sure you had an interesting character was to test drive them. This meant that we would put the character in a "typical dinner at home" situation to show how our character reacted to normal situations. This would help our readers understand more about the character than you might pick up in the situation of the story.

I wrote down this test drive as an idea for my story "Starved." (If you haven't read "Starved" I would recommend reading that first, as this will make more sense.) This test drive of a story is definitely not my favorite thing I've written, although it is (in my opinion) a very good way for both the reader and the writer to learn more about the character.

Because this story was something scribbled into my school notebook, it is not my best work. The story has not yet been revised. It also does not have a title, but if you have suggestions for a title, please feel free to share them!

Mia - woman from "Starved"

Nina - Mia's wife

Mikey and Leila - Mia and Nina's children

Daisy - the family's lab

I have added this guide for the characters as I did not plan to actually type this story, and I do not explain who people are. Anyways, enough talking from me. I hope you enjoy my test drive, and maybe try one of your own!
