Her eyes meet mine as she leans against the thresh hold of my new apartment. I knew. I've been knowing. He's back. The look in her hazel eyes sent me unknown messages. That was my sister though, so unreadable yet, so clear. It was not good. When has it been?
"Ana, I ma- he's- I d-
"Mason is back." I help her. I got a call from my mother last night telling me that he has wondered back into town. Her voice sounded just like the look my sister continues to give me. "Mom called last night." The words stumble out of my mouth and right on the floor as my eyes reach the wood. My toes, they're painted a charcoal black.
"I didn't know she even knew." Alina whispers to me. Her and my mother fell off a while ago. For more reasons than one, but I didn't keep up with their drama. I moved out of that town for a reason (s).
"How did he know?" I ask, curiosity laced within my voice as I push the door open wider so she can come in. I had been cleaning all evening and standing hurts. I make my way over to the couch and sit down and pat down a spot for her to join me. This feels so off to have her here, sitting with me.. talking about boys.
"I'm not sure I haven't spoke to him. But I think you should." Alina spills out in seconds and I know she means her words. I don't believe them. I shake my head quickly refusing to do such. "He's probably still a little.. ya know. He needs to know what happened and you're the only one to tell him. You know everything." She is one hundred percent right.
"I can't." My heart begins to pump loudly in my chest and my palms begin to sweat. Memories of last year scream at me. But I couldn't deny that seeing him, it has me curious.
"You can." She pauses " you have to." My sister pushes me. I nod at her and ask for her help with my eyes and she nods.
All this time.
So much has changed
But just thinking of him again, I know one thing has not.
