CHAPTER TWO

I sat down in class and let myself calm down. Great, the first time someone talks to me in a friendly way and all they see is a doll. Considering the way I spoke to him I don’t think he’ll be coming to my rescue again. Our math teacher, Mr. Asuma, came into class smelling like cigarettes as usual. He was usually seen during recess out in the teacher’s car park smoking, sometimes even with other students, though nobody ever did anything about it and Principal Tsunade never seemed to catch wind of it.

“Alright class, today we are doing a pop quiz. This won’t go on your report, it’ll just help let me know what areas we need to strengthen before exams. Sasuke, can you please hand out the papers?” he asked the ravenette sitting at the front of the class.

Without a word he got up and started handing them out while I waited patiently at the back of the room. Of course I was at the back, if I’d sat at the front it would have given the students a perfect line of fire for the back of my head and I really wasn’t fond of detangling spit balls from my hair. I placed my head on the desk and stretched my arms out in front of me so they hung over the front. Eventually Sasuke got to my table but instead of passing me the sheet of paper and going back to his seat he paused. I looked up curiously and found that he was staring pointedly at my hands. I raised my head even further and then stifled a gasp as I noticed that there was a trail of blood over the top of my hand, about to drip to the ground. I quickly pulled my hand back and attempted to pull my sleeve lower to cover it but I knew it was already too late, he’d seen it. The wound must have reopened earlier when those boys were grabbing me. I pleaded with my eyes hoping he would just forget it and hand me my quiz but he just stared at me blankly before turning to the teacher.

“Sir, can I take Yorosuka to the school nurse?” he asked. Oh, please no! Don’t tell him, don’t tell him!

“Why, what’s the issue?” he asked and I squeezed my eyes shut, dreading the moment the questions would start about why I was bleeding so profusely.

“She’s not feeling too good. If she stays in class she might vomit” he said casually and a few class members shouted ‘EW!’ and ‘get her out of here’.

He lied for me? Why did he do that? How did he know to do that?

“Well hurry then, don’t worry about a hall pass. If you run into someone just tell them to come talk to me. I don’t want to have vomit in my classroom” the teacher said and Sasuke nodded before grabbing my uninjured arm and dragging me from the room and into the hallway.

“Why did you lie?” I asked him and he dropped my hand before motioning to step into an empty classroom. I did as he wanted and he closed the door before turning to me still wearing that blank expression so similar to Gaara’s it was uncanny.

“Why did you want me to lie?” he retorted and I fumbled for an answer.

“I hate snitching and I didn’t want my bullies to get revenge for getting into trouble” I said seeing as everyone knew I was bullied, though it was far from the truth.

“Now you’re the one lying” he accused and I blinked.

“How do you know I’m lying?” I asked him in shock.

“I didn’t, you just told me” he replied and I felt like slapping myself for being so careless.

“Listen, it’s none of your business so please just drop it” I asked desperately.

“Why would you stay quiet about this? That amount of blood is pretty serious, I think there’s more than simple bullying going on here. What, do they torture you out of school now too?” he asked and I realized he didn’t suspect my family after all.
