Raven and Dove

A fable i wrote for school.

The dove raised its head, looking at the magnificent sunset, ruffling its snow-white feathers as it went. The world was at peace, and the dove was grateful for it. Dove looked at the lush, green, forest below. Curious to what was inside, he flew down like a leaf in the wind, delicate and beautiful.

Gliding like a skater on ice, Dove rested at a tree, glimmering black eyes shining in the light. 'Such a peaceful place,' Dove said to himself.

What Dove did not see, high in the tree above him, rested a coal-black raven, watching the dove below.

'What a beautiful bird,' Raven mused, but deep inside, Raven was jealous. Raven followed the Dove as he flew through the forest, chirping cheerily as he went.

Raven had a plan. Deftly, he flew down, positioning himself so Dove could see him.

'Oh help, help!' Raven cried in a falsetto voice.

Dove, as kind and peaceful as he was, immediately went to help, landing on a branch just above Ravens head.

'Whatever is the matter?' Dove said anxiously.

'I have twisted my leg, and I cannot move!' Raven wailed.

Dove was suspicious. 'I have heard stories of evil Ravens,' He said. 'How can I trust you?'

'I am not like other Ravens!' Raven screeched. 'I would never hurt a soul!'

Reluctantly, Dove agreed. He flew down to where Raven lay, bending over his leg.

'There does not seem to be anything wrong,' Dove said.

As quick as a flash, Raven rose. His sharp talons raked over Doves face, and in a matter of seconds, Dove was dead, and once again, Death and Murder ruled the forest.
