April McCormack knew she was ready. From the moment she had learnt to read, she knew this award was hers, and after 10 long years of waiting, her time had come.

She had been four when she first heard about the Longfellers award, the award for people specializing in English and literature. It was that moment when she knew that was the award for her, and her only. Ever since then, April's main focus was winning that award. she signed up to as many writing competitions as she could, and applied for extra credit tasks whenever she could.

She took her place in the rows of graduating students, smoothing out the invisible wrinkles in her dress. She looked towards the stage in the center of the room,  where she would soon be receiving her award.  Her heart began to race faster as the principal walked onto the stage. For several minutes, she rambled on, but April had zoned out.

The principal cleared her throat. "And finally, the Longfellers award goes to-"

April began to rise, her heart beating faster and faster.

"Millie Morgan."
