No.
No.
April's heart stopped. She couldn't hear anything except the panicked beating of her heart. Surely she had heard wrong. Surely there had been a mistake. She waited for the principal to be corrected, but the only thing she could hear was the polite applause from the audience.
Of course it was Millie. It was always Millie. School prefect? Millie. Captain of the debating team? Millie. Ever since kindergarten, everything April had ever wanted had gone to Millie, and for that, April despised her for it.
Everyone loved Millie. The jocks, the nerds, the 'popular' girls, and every other stereotypical clique you could think of. Except April, of course. And worst of all, Millie was nice. Painfully, horribly, annoyingly nice.
April watched as Millie walked up to the stage, smiling brightly at the crowd. She reached the microphone, and cleared her throat.
"First of all, i'd like to thank everyone in this room- each one of you has helped me become the person i am today up here." She smiled again then continued. "I have immensely enjoyed my seven years here, and i look forward to the years ahead. I will greatly miss all of my friends here, when we all begin the long journey into high school." She wiped her eyes, and stepped away.
"Thanks Millie, and thanks to everyone who came today. Please continue upstairs for drinks and finger food." The principal said.
Another round of applause from the audience.
How this day could get any worse, April didn't know.
