Jari
The simple summer they would all experience. Maybe a few dazzling days at the beach, if social anxiety would subside for a few hours. They pointed out a few spots and wild activities for all of them to partake in. But one activity would be uncalled for.

Jari crept to the old creaky window, her bag letting out a ruffling noise as she hiked the window up. She jumped out the window then took one last glance inside the familiar home. Bella, her white dog currently wearing a floral dress watched closely and wearily. Jari would smile and put a finger to her lips before shutting the window. She wouldn't be gone for long, only till the warm sun had just begun to light up the dark sky.
Jari took long steps as she continued down the quite path. A path which was drilled into her head from all the wondrous filled nights with the crackheads she called her best friends. With each stride she neared the spot they all snuck out too, a spot down by Caramel Street. She wasn't sure why they named it such a peculiar name but the thought was swiped away by the chatter of a bunch of dumb teens.
The shrill of fear protruded from behind the tall vine covered fence. She climbed up the fence using the vines to push herself up, and plopped down. The source of the small yell between Kellen about to throw Lori in the pool. She wasn't surprised. Her eyes searching around those who had came. Lori, Kellen, Dalton, Moe, and Micheal...
Her eyes stopping on him and lingering for a bit to long. His tall slim figure in the corner, a smile painted on his face. He never said much... but she had always wondered what he was thinking deep in his mind... Maybe even thinking of her... She immediately brushed off the idea and scoffed a bit at herself. Then she noticed his eyes fixated on herself, a deep rosy blush lighting her cheeks as she realized he had taken notice of her confused look at him. She stood there in an awkward silence before others picked up on it.
"Y'all gonna fuck or something?" Kellen cackled and a few others laughed. Jari was bright red now, she looked away now. She took in a deep thoughtful breath before walking to Lori, the chatter picking up again. Micheal and Kellen now sitting next to each other, not saying much.
"Do you think Micheal has been acting odd lately." Jari asked the short brunette girl. Lori crossed her arms and looked up at Jari
"Micheal is hard to read first of all, second of all he's going through a lot you know that." Lori said softly then took a swish of the soda Kellen most likely drugged up a bit, though she didn't fuss. Dalton walked over and wrapped a gentle caring arm around the shirt girl.
"What's going on?" The red head asked, looking at the two girls with an arched eyebrow.
"Nothing..." Jari said quickly and then walked over to the outdoor table near the sparkling blue pool. The back yard they were stationed in was lit up by Christmas lights, without them it was likely you wouldn't be able to see a thing. Kellen set up this place for all of them, a comfy place at his step dad's place. It wasn't often all of them hung out at the same time, that's why it was vital to sneak out when everyone could.
She looked over, seeing Dalton glare and shuffle a bit as he watched Kellen. Lori in his arms and popping her gum as she talked to Kellen about something irrelevant. Micheal was perfectly placed next to Kellen, staring at Jari with a watchful eye. A spark flaring inside of herself as she noticed, she chewed on her bottom lip with a slight lava glow to her cheeks still. Nothing seemed to really light up the night like usual. The atmosphere was growing thick and heavy. Building on everyone's shoulders.
Kellen noticed head lights piercing through the cracks of the gates. "Hey guys, time to fucking dip. Get out, unless you'd like to stay for the night." He winked at Jari. "Just kidding fuck, I have a girlfriend she's super ho-"
"We already know Kellen." Lori interrupted as she walked to the fence and hopped over. Dalton went the other direction, towards his car which was parked in some driveway. Jari let out a disappointed sigh, Well that was way more boring then usual. She before hopped down from the fence she watched Micheal smile at her and then head to the gate. She then started the path back. Soon to be stopped by a harsh clamp on her hand. She let out a yelp and looked back to see Lori.
"What the hell you scared the shit out of me!" Jari whispered aggressively, Lori only gave a sarcastic smirk before starting to walk the mapped path.
"Come on, Kellen's dad came home a little too early. The night is still young, let's go get some food. I know you didn't eat dinner and I have money so- you don't have a choice." She bit her lip then continued down the path. Jari rolled her eyes, but noticed the slight rumble aching at her stomach.
Lori led the duo to a small café which was known for giving hella good coffee and donuts. She ordered them both a drink and a donut, then she sat Jari at the tan beige table with comfortable padded seats.
"I think Micheal likes me..." Jari said quietly, thinking her close friend wouldn't hear anything over the donut she was devouring.
"Wait what?" Lori stopped and smiled after taking a large swallow of donut. "What makes you think that? Are you guys gonna date and have little Micheal babies!" She squealed only to be stopped by Jari's loud "SHH" as if the guy with a long beard covered with a net had any reason to indulge in their tea.
"No! Are you crazy! I said I think, jeez. We can talk about it tomorrow over a call or something." She rolled her eyes, slowly beginning to nibble on the donut.
After a few tea spills, the sun was rising and a rush of anxiety hit her. "I gotta go Lori! See you soon!" Jari said before running out of the café, Lori giving a small wave before paying for their food. Jari sprinter home and climbed into her room once more, the door opening right before Jari sat on the bed after putting her bag on the floor.
"Oh hey mom, you're up early?" Jari asked her mother, giving a fake yawn before watching her.
"Jari, we got a call a few minutes ago... Kellen was drowned in his pool an hour ago..."
