As the sun hits my face my eyes slowly open, I see the same things I see every morning. The patterned wallpaper, the ruffled sheets, the old chair in the corner. Everything seems to always be the same, it gets boring but I guess ill just have to live with it. I rub my eyes trying to wake myself up enough to get out of bed, I blink as my eyes water. I slowly get out of bed trying to be as quiet as I can, so I don't wake my mother. Suddenly I hear footsteps running down the hallway towards my room, my maid Betty comes running in with a letter in her hand. "Your mail miss"
"Thank you, Betty is there anything else?"
"Not to my understanding ma'am," she says her head bows.
"You may leave now, thank you" She leaves the room in a hurry almost. The letter looks handwritten. I grab my engraved letter opener and open the letter up to see a slightly messily handwritten letter. I start to read it,
"Dear Ruth, meet me up at maple tree hill at twelve o'clock sharp, I have a surprise for. Don't bother with a picnic just bring yourself cause that's enough for anyone." There didn't seem to be a name that came with it, just what you see. I look at the clock on the wall and to my shock, the time is eleven-thirty, it always takes a good twenty minutes to get up to the top of Maple Tree Hill. meaning I have only ten minutes to get dressed and ready. I run into the bathroom filling up the sink with cold water. I take off my clothes as I wait for the sink to fill up. I quickly wash, then I rush out into my room and throw on my beige coat like dress with a pair of flat black shoes. My hair is flat so I tie it up and put my sunhat over it. I run to the kitchen to see if my mother is there to say goodbye before I go. As I reach the kitchen I find t to be empty, I run down the hall and out of the front door. I don't take a bike to ride there I like to walk, I proceed to walk down the long twisty road that leads to a hidden opening in the hedge that I squeeze through quickly. I proceed to walk through the field along the worn path. After the field, I reach the metal gate that leads through the woods to Maple Tree Hill. I walk through the woods avoiding the puddles and little piles of leaves. As I leave the forest I can see Maple tree Hill, Charles is at the top of the hill his horse is tied to the tree and he is stood there looking patient. As he sees me he waves and starts to walk towards me, I walk at a standard pace. As we met at the bottom of the hill, he suddenly throws his arms around me. " I didn't think that you would find time to come"
"I guess I needed some fresh air," I replied in a flirty manner.
"Well come around this way and you'll see why I sent that very letter," he says smiling at me. We walk around to the other side of the tree to see a perfectly laid out picnic. My jaw drops with excitement. "Well don't just stand there, dig in!" We both sit down one by one and share the food that he has laid out. It is the best food ever if I say so. After we finish up our meals, he pulls out a bottle of milk. "A gift from my father and I to you and your mother" he says handing it to me.
"I'm very grateful thank you, I will repay you as soon as possible"
"There is no need, it's a gift"
"Your very kind"
"I do try my best, but sadly I do have to go help make more of that fresh milk,"
"I have had a wonderful morning, thank you," I say as he continues to get up and jump on his horse.
"I shall see you soon" and with that he was gone. He seemed to have left his picnic beaker and rubbish. So I pack it away in the basket and head home. All the way home through the woods and the fields, I can't help thinking of him and how much of a wonderful time I have had. I blush at the thought of him. As I walk down the road to my house Charles is stood outside my front door his gorse tied to my gate. He smiles as he sees me.
"What are you doing here I saw you only twenty minutes ago" I say looking at him as he walks closer to me.
"I forgot my basket and one other thing,"
"Well I've only got your basket-" he leans in and kisses me, He pulls away.
"I'm so sorry I don't what came over me" I didn't know what to say, my heart was racing.
"You don't have to say anything don't worry, I understand" he gets on his horse with the basket this time and gallops away. My mother comes bursting through the front door.
"Why didn't you tell me you were going out and then you come home to kiss a boy"
"I'm sorry mother"
"It's okay darling, just come inside and tell me while we have a cup of tea"
"Yes mother" I walk inside only one thing on my mind, Charles.
