I was out on lookout when it happened. As usual, the sky was a bleak grey and the wind howled like wolves. My limbs stung in the cold, but it was a feeling I was used to. Searching the Dock, a big blue and gold vehicle ported and a man a few years older than me stepped out, wearing a gold and blue suit.

"Avast!" I yelled. He stopped and looked up.
"I have a proposition in need of answering," he stated. His accent was similar to my dad's and my brothers'... but sounded more polished, as if he had been brought up over in Auradon or at least with the Tremaines or something.

Climbing down from the crow's nest, I ran to Uma's cabin.
"Gil, ye supposed to be on lookout," she stated sternly.
"There's a landlubber wanting ye, Cap'n."
She rolled her eyes and walked out onto the deck, me trailing close behind. As soon as she spotted him, she stopped in her tracks.

"Avast! Show ye colours!" Uma yelled to him, and he gained a confused look.
"Urgh. State ye intentions," she translated.
"Oh! I'm here to ask you if you want to come over to Auradon."

"Ha Ha Ha! Ye only foolin' yeself," Uma laughed, "There ain' no way outta here!"
"No jokes. I had posters put up last week informing the Isle."
"Ye serious?"
"completely."

"All hands on deck!" Uma yelled and the crew, consisting of Harry and three others, rushed to the deck.
"Aye aye!"
"A trade deal! Myself and two others are going to Auradon. Volunteers?"

"Aye, Cap'n!" Yelled Harry, raising his prosthetic hook.
"Aye aye!" I added quickly.
"Very well. Harry and Gil will join me. The rest o' ye, CJ is in charge!" announced Uma. As CJ did her victory dance, the other two groaned.

I was running - running for my life. Loaf of bread in hand. It's very rare that I actually get caught, but that day was just a bad day. Anastasia Tremaine's husband was hot on my trail. Seizing an opportunity, I slipped between two huts, and the Baker ran past, oblivious. I smirked and ran in the opposite direction, back towards the hideout.

Out of breath, I collapsed onto the sofa, bread still in hand. For fuck's sake, it was bread! Why had I let myself get caught?

Small, energetic steps ran down the stairs, and a smile crept onto my face. "Jay!"
"Hey, big man. Here." I broke a piece off the loaf and handed it to him, and he ate it gratefully.

"So, what're ya today?" I asked; he was always pretending to be something or other and it was adorable.
"I'm a rat!"
There were only a few animals on the Isle; Cats, rats and vultures. Unless you counted Iago the parrot. They were the only animals that VKs had actually seen, which didn't help Carlos's fear of dogs.

"Well, I'd dare say you make a good rat," I complimented, tapping his nose playfully. "Why don't we find the others?"
"Okay," he agreed.
There was a knock at the door.

No one knocks the door.

Mal, Evie and Carlos bolted down the stairs, Carlos picking his brother up to hold him. As the VK in the group most likely to win a fight, I cautiously opened the door.

Stood there in a pristine blue and gold suit was a man about my height.
"What d'you want?" I snapped. You couldn't be too careful.
"I, uh, am here about the invitation to Auradon," he stated. I raised an eyebrow.
"King Benjamin, was it?"
"Prince, actually, but yes," he corrected me.

"I-I think we should go," stammered Carlos. "If I had a choice for my brother, I think he would be better off in Auradon."

🐲

"What do you think, Pipsqueak?" I asked the child.
"Awadon! Awadon!" he yelled happily. That settled it.
"Okay, we'll go with you."
