Just so you know, Donnie was cute.
OK .. he was hott. He was tall, I'd guess 6'5. Yep, pretty tall. He wasn't to muscular but he wasn't scrawny either. Any other circumstance and I'd be flirting my way to girlfriend status, but true to my convictions, I dodged his advances like a pro.
"We're going to get drinks, y'all be good." Samantha told me shooting me a pointed look. I rolled my eyes and watched as she danced towards the bar with Donnie's friend, and her flavor of the month, Toby.
Sneaky little...
"Flower for the pretty lady?" A woman, who appeared out of no where, asked Donnie.
Please don't. Please don't. Pllleeaasseee don't. I begged him in my head.
He obliged the woman and I felt my face turn bright red as he offered it to me. Of course I took it but only to be nice. He was attractive, but nothing I'm willing to give my freedom up for.
"Thanks, that was really nice." I told him shyly.
"So how come this is the first time we've met Ali?"
"I actually just moved here this weekend." I answered politely.
"Nice. You'll have to let me show you around. Sammie knows some places, but I grew up here. I can show you the secret places we don't advertise to tourists."
And then he winked. He actually winked.
Someone kill me.
Although I would admit I was curious to see these spots, it wasn't at the expense of being towed around by him, possibly giving him the wrong idea.
"Yeah. OK." I only hoped he was drunk enough to forget his offer.
When "Sammie" and Toby returned with drinks I quickly downed mine and stood up. "I'm going to find the ladies room." I yelled over the music from the live band who just started to play. "Any body want drinks?"
They nodded, Sam, not Sammie, made a face from her shot and told me to make it a fruity one at the same time Donnie asked if I needed him to go with me.
Hell no!
I told him I was fine and gave him me sweetest smile so he wouldn't get offended. Then I made my way to the ladies room. I didn't need to use it, I just needed a breather.
When I finally got up to the bar, I ordered and noticed an older guy watching me. After a while when he hadn't looked away I actually 9wished I let Donnie accompany me. I didn't need any creeps causing trouble on my first night out.
"You stay uptown, right?" He finally asked in a heavy Russian accent.
Oh great.
"Yep.. how could you tell?"
He took a sip of some foreign beer I'd never heard of before and turned to me, stepping just a little closer. I looked towards my table and felt a little safer when I saw Donnie walking towards us. He was eyeing my new "friend".
"I saw you moving in. You're a few doors down from me. You were with some older man and a crying lady. You're parents, yeah?"
I laughed.
"Yeah those were my parents. Nice to meet you. I take it you aren't from here?" I joked.
He laughed as well. And then a pretty girl around my age appeared next to him.
"No, my girlfriend and I have only been here almost a year."
About the time Donnie made it to us, the Russian guy and his girlfriend starting speaking to eachother in Russian. It almost sounded like they were arguing so I focused on Donnie to avoid anything awkward.
Finally, the girl turned to me.
"Sorry about that. I'm Suzanna, this is my boyfriend Leo."
Leo?
"I'm Ali, this is Donnie." I introduced us.
"Donnie, wow such a handsome American boy. Is he.. your boyfriend?"
Once again I blushed like crazy. That is always so awkward.
"Friend." I corrected, shaking my head, smiling.
"Y'all like shots?" Leo asked.
"Duh!" I exclaimed, causing everyone to laugh.
He ordered a round of vodka for the four of us and passed them around. Then he turned to me.
"Welcome to the neighborhood."
We all took our shots and I turned to Leo to thank him. He was staring at me again, but this time it wasn't curious. He had almost a determined look. I shivered. It was a little creepy.
"Thanks for the shot, but our friends are waiting for their drinks." Donnie spoke up finally. I was grateful to get away from Leo and his weird ass intrusive stares.
"Alright, alright." Leo said, then lightly grabbed my arm. I froze.
"See you around .. Ali."
Composing myself I nodded once and said, "see ya." Then walked back to my table.
When we sat back down I took the risk of glancing back towards the bar at Leo and Suzanna. It looked like they were speaking intensely again. Before I could look away they both turned and looked at me. I quickly averted my eyes and had a staring contest with my beer.
By the time I looked up they were gone.
