Narrator's POV

"A Tropical Disturbance forms when the water vapor from the warm ocean condenses to form clouds and releases its heat to the air. The warmed air rises and is pulled into the column of clouds. Evaporation and condensation continue, building the cloud columns higher and larger. A pattern develops, with the winds circulating around the center. As the moving column of air encounters more clouds, it becomes a cluster of thunderstorm clouds, called a Tropical Disturbance. It's the birth of a hurri-"

Normani stops reading and turns around to find her friend laughing silently at her phone screen. She sighs in disappointment and says, "Lauren, are you even listening to me?"

Lauren dismisses her with her hand, "Yeah, yeah. Evaporation, condensation, and birth. That's some interesting shit right there, Mani."

The dark-skinned girl rolls her eyes in a slightly playful way but says sternly, "Lauren, I'm serious. Your whole Bio note depends on this test and if you fail, you know your dad won't let you out of the house in like a fucking year."

"Come on, Mani," Lauren responds lightly as she sits up from her lying position on the floor, "it's not even that serious. I can just sneak out to hang out with you and you know he won't even notice."

"Cassandra will notice." Normani points out.

"Yeah, but that bitch won't say anything to dad. I'm the one who has to drive her around while dad is working, and she won't risk me getting the car confiscated too. It's gonna be fine, stop stressin'." She put her phone down and finally faced her friend, sitting on the bed she was at and trying to look confident about what she was saying at the same time.

Normani looked at her intently, wondering when her friend got so irresponsible and careless. Lauren noticed her disapproving look and sighed forcefully as she got closer to her.

"Mani, please don't give me that look, okay? You know shit has been intense with me lately, and I really don't know why you're being so hard on me. I'm doing the best I fucking can. Right now," she paused and got closer to her best friend, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, "I wanna enjoy that I'm good, happy and with you."

Normani couldn't hold back her smile and laughed, "God, Lauren. You're such a sappy little shit."

Lauren laughed with her and playfully slapped her arm. "Shut up."

Later, they both agreed on watching a movie together in order to rest for their test tomorrow, and although Normani was still a little worried for Lauren, she always made sure she did the best she could to keep her sane. After all, that's what best friends are for, right?

Camila's POV

"Mami!" I shouted as I walked down the stairs. I picked up my backpack from the floor and soon realized that I didn't need to shout because my mom was literally standing right in front of me with a disturbed face and one finger covering her ear.

"Mija, I think I'm deaf now. My ear is ringing."

I laughed goofily and apologized to my mother, "Sorry, I didn't think you were gonna be this close." I pecked her cheek, and my mom laughed along, "I'm going to walk to Normani Kordei's house to finish off the Chem project we have for tomorrow, is that okay?"

She nodded, "Of course, just make sure Normani drives you home if it's too dark out. I don't want you walking alone late at night." My mother lovingly embraced me and swiftly handed me an umbrella. "Also, Mija, it's getting a little cloudy."

I looked at the bight, pink umbrella now in my hands for a moment, "Um... Mom, don't you have an umbrella with a little less, like, whatever this is?"
