You aren't doing well. Life has caught up to you and everything starts hitting you fast. The medicine was working for a while, but now it seems like your body is repelling the one thing it needs to survive. Your body aches and your breathing has become minimized as you strive to catch another breath. The doctors said everything would be fine, but that that a month ago, when your body actually accepted the medicine. You can't really expect 5 IVs, heart and lung monitors, and a tube running down your throat to be okay! It's not okay to have failing lungs!!!

Your eyes remain closed as you dream about past times. 3 months ago everything was perfect. You lived a healthy live with your family, had great grades in school, and even had a boyfriend named Hunter! Sweet memories flood your mind and tears start falling down your face as you realize how perfect your life had been.

You remember one moment in particular that makes you smile. Hunter and you were sitting on the beach sand. Your hand was in his and he rested his arm around your shoulder. You leaned in against his chest and watched the beach waves roll as you felt the continuous up and down moment up his chest. Everything was so peaceful and perfect. A smile spread widely across your face as you look up at Hunter and see him looking back at you. A twinkle in Hunter's eyes shines as he opens his mouth to speak.

Hunter - "I would literally stop breathing just to see that smile on your face!"

You - "I love you Hunter!"

Hunter - "I love you more (Y/N)!"

The memory is rudely interrupted as your lungs close up on you. It feels as if the force of the world is crashing down on you and it doesn't want you to gather even another ounce of air. The monitors by your bedside go off and the doctors comes sprinting in. The world around becomes dizzy and blurry until you feel a sharp pain in your right arm and quickly doze off to sleep.

Waking up the next morning is painful. Your lungs feel tight and the pain from the IV in your arm still feels bruised. You don't want to open your eyes. You want to be back home and in your bed. The mere sight of the hospital makes you feel worse. When you finally open your eyes, you realize someone is sitting next to you. Hunter.

Hunter - "Hi (Y/N)!" He gives you a small smile but doesn't know how exactly to behave around you in the hospital.

You - "Hey Hunter! I'm glad you came here! I missed you!"

Hunter - "I missed you too! It's not the same around school without you!"

You - "I bet!"

You and Hunter laugh together but soon feel into an awkward silence.

Hunter - "So (Y/N), I'm so sorry about your lungs! I heard that you can get a transplant successfully though!" He smiles a bit but the usual twinkle in his eyes when he smiles wasn't there.

You - "Ya! I'm so grateful that they found a lung replacement so quickly! I'm going into surgery tomorrow night." You smile big to show your excitement.

Hunter - "That's amazing (Y/N)! Hey listen I gotta go now...I have a doctor's appointment. Listen (Y/N), I love you so much and I will literally stop breathing just to see your smile! Bye now!"

Hunter stands up and kisses you on the forehead. You smile up at him ad watch as he makes his way to the door of your hospital room.

You - "I love you Hunter!"

Hunter turns around and smiles at you one last time before he rounds the corner.

The next day comes along soon enough. You are overwhelmed with excited. Finally!! Finally the struggle will end! Oxygen will actually be able to your lungs normally and life will finally go back to normal!!

The doctors are in and out of your room all day, prepping you for the lung transplant that night. It almost becomes an annoyance as you wish for just a minute of privacy. The only person you want in the room is Hunter. He is the only person who can make you smile now. You remember Hunter's words; "I will literally stop breathing just to see your smile!" You smile at the thought of him saying that.

It's two hours until surgery. Your nurse, Becca, enters your room and helps refluff your pillows so your comfortable. She pours you another glass of water and starts making her way out of the room again.

You - "Becca? I was wondering...how did I get a lung transplant donor so quickly?"

Becca - "Let's just say that you had an angel looking out for you!"

She smiles and leaves the room. You close your eyes and soon find yourself drifting back to sleep.

You open your eyes. Nothing at first seems different. You let out a deep yawn and stretch a little bit, though you still sore. Your chest feels open. Air is circulating again. The surgery is working!! You realize the cords from your throat were removed and your heart rate is back to normal according to your heart monitor. At last! Everything is normal again!!

You try to sit up. Still sore, you lean back but start looking around the room. No one is there. Obviously people know the surgery worked so they probably left you alone to sleep.

You think to yourself. I wonder if Hunter knows? He will be so glad to know I'm better! When will he get here? I wish he would come sooner!!

Your mom walks into your room. With one hand she carries the largest bouquet of flowers you've ever seen. In the other hand, she has a huge teddy bear about the size of a dwarf. You smile and let a few tears out as your mother wraps her arms around you.

Mom - "I'm so happy your better (Y/N)!"

You - "I know! Me too! But who was my lung donor?" You look at your mom with great curiosity as you want to know the person who saved your life. "Was it some older lady or gentleman? Or maybe a spare lung somewhere?" You giggle a lit bit.

Your mom turns away with a shy look on her face. She seems to be hiding something.

You - "Mom, tell me!" Frustration starts to be shown with your tone, but your mom doesn't change attitudes. You want to know this secret that is apparent really important to hide.

Your mom walks towards the door and mumbles something under her breath.

Mom - "At least he got to see your smile one last time."

She leaves and tears flood your eyes.

You think to yourself as you start sobbing. What did Hunter do?
