#3 : "cocky."

lunch time came around sooner than expected, and jeno took the time to get to know his new friend, mark, better.

they sat down at a table after picking up the plain, same old cafeteria food.

"ah man. a ham and cheese sandwich on the first day of school, never a good sign." jeno groaned, picking at it.

mark swallowed the bite of food and shrugged. "tastes fine to me. what's so bad about it?"

"the ham and cheese sandwiches that the school provide usually contain rat feces in them."

mark held up a finger. "excuse me for a moment.."

the younger nodded understandingly and watched him run to the counter to get water.

"whew, that was awful." mark said, coughing as he made his way back to the table. "thought that stuff was just seasoning."

"i thought the same- oh look! renjun and jaemin are coming over!" jeno said, waving his giant hand in the air to signal for the two to come over. "there's another guy with them as well, but his face is buried in a book?"

jaemin winked at jeno for the third time that day. "hello, jeno. who's this?"

"oh! uh hi guys. this is mark lee, he's new."

mark looked up shyly and waved at renjun and jaemin, but continued to stare down at his lap afterwards.

jeno glanced over at the boy who was reading. "mind if i ask who this is?"

jaemin made an 'o' shape with his mouth. "haechan, we've made it."

"really? oopsies!" the boy said.

the canadian's ears perked up at sound of haechan's happy voice.

"my name is lee donghyuck, but you can call me haechan~"

"nice to meet you, haechan." jeno said, smiling as he extended his hand out for the other to shake. "mark, this is haechan."

mark looked up from his lap. his eyes became as wide as saucers as soon as they saw the boy.

"nice to meet you!" the tanned male laughed, leaning over to pinch mark's cheek.

the older only continued to stare at him.

haechan saw this and grinned. "don't stare, i know that i'm beautiful, but it's kinda weird if you do that, hehe."

"i'm s-sorry!" mark said suddenly, snapping out of whatever trance he was in.

"it's okay!"

renjun saw that both mark and haechan were both occupied with each other, and jaemin and jeno were both talking. he cleared his throat. "ahem. i exist too, guys."

his bff immediately broke off his conversation with jaemin that seemed to be going swimmingly.

"i'm sorry, injunnie. i was trying to ask jaemin if he needed eye drops because of his winking problem but he just kept winking." jeno apologized, ruffling renjun's hair.

the smaller pouted and crossed his arms, turning to face the opposite direction. "i don't forgive you, hmph."

the eye smile boy immediately pulled renjun into a tight embrace. "don't be mad!"

"ahh okay you're choking me! let go, jeno-"

"never!" jeno squeaked, burying his head in the crook of renjun's neck.

"are you guys dating? that's cute." haechan commented, looking up from the book that he occupied himself with a few minutes ago.

"no we are not!" the two whined.

"that's enough for today-" jaemin muttered, pulling his crush off of the chinese boy.

renjun let out a sigh of relief as soon as the weight was lifted off his shoulders.

mark and haechan exchanged confused expressions because of the scene currently taking place in front of them.

the canadian noticed that the book in haechan's hand was titled ' tiny beautiful things: advice on love and life from dear sugar ' thinking, this haechan guy must be a hopeless romantic of some sort.

"they're a little weird.." the younger giggled, whispering to mark.

the ping of a notification sounded from his phone.

haechan stood up from the table. "i gotta go."

"why?" jeno asked as jaemin continuously poked his arm because he wanted attention.

"club meeting."

"ah, okay. have fun!"

"i will, thank you!" the sunny boy said, waving at renjun, jeno, and jaemin.

he turned to mark and winked at him.

"bye mark!"

mark's cheeks glowed a bright pink color.

jaemin pointed at haechan and the new boy. "see, jeno? you're supposed to blush like mark when i wink at you!"

the taller cocked his head to one side in confusion. "huh?"

jaemin grunted in frustration.

"you're a desperate female dog." renjun snickered.

"please fuck off already. i have math next and i really don't want mr. nakamoto to give my ass a whooping."

"it's what you deserve."

"what i deserve? your best friend is what i deserve."

the chinese rolled his eyes for what felt like the millionth time that day. "cocky."
