I swiftly pushed the door open, almost falling to the floor from the harsh impact, into his office, hands sweaty and shaky.
Today was going to be my first official day as an officer, and a partner.
Fellow officers have previously told me of my partner; anything but kind words it seemed like.
From him looking like a deity to the chances of me getting killed on his behalf, none of the rumors mattered because I was finally going to be able to serve justice along with someone—something other than my self wit.
While I trained at the academy, I was a loner.
Although my bubbly personality resulted in joyful greetings, they weren't enough for people to create genuine friendships with me.
It was quite sad, actually.
But nonetheless, here's my opportunity to start over!
Here we go-

"I'll miss you." My partner of three years, Roger, said.
I rolled my eyes seeing tears threatening to spill out of his eyes.
"Don't be like that. It isn't cute." I muttered, crossing my arms in annoyance, earning a chuckle.
Roger was a great partner; he was there for me when my wife died. But moments like these just made me want to be fine with being convicted for his murder.
"Well, I'll see you around. Don't get yourself into trouble and please don't hurt your new partner, okay?" He pleaded.
He knew how I was with my temper.
"Whatever. Now, get on with your life." I shoved him before receiving a quick 'fuck you' as I walked back into my office.
I sighed, settling in my seat.
Today had been a long day.
Massaging my temples, I glanced around my office until my eyes landed on the frame.
Of my wife and I.
She was nudging my head as I stood there with a straight face.
I chuckled, remembering how I had confessed my feelings to her right before.
I reached out to the frame and lovingly caressed it, as if that would help me feel how I did when I was with her. When she was here.
I miss her.
Before a tear was able to slip out, I wiped my eyes and coughed, hearing my door click.
Everyone in this building knows not to just barge into my room.
Who is it?
Juliette
My movement stopped abruptly as I took in the sight in front of me.
He sat behind his desk, hands folded, as he stared at me in confusion.
I didn't mind his expression, as I was too busy studying his god-like features.
Slender nose; high, sharp cheekbones.
And the eyes.
They seemed as though they were crystallized, the blue and sliver pigment stirring, forcefully pulling me into his almost cold stare.
I had no choice but to stare like I would be at a piece of art.
It was absolutely beautiful.
Something erupted inside of me but I shook it off, for it was too foreign.
What the hell was that?
"Who are you?" He decided to speak up, his voice stern.
His piercing eyes were intimidating, causing me to clear my throat at my embarrassment.
"U-um, I'm your new partner, officer Anderson." I hesitantly walked toward him and pulled out my hand for him to shake.
God, I hope he doesn't notice my nervousness.
This wasn't like me; quiet and shy.
He glanced at me before engulfing his hand in mine.
His sudden warmth sparked that previous feeling, almost heightened twice as much.
I clenched my hand in an attempt to calm down whatever was happening.
I proceeded to immediately rip my hand way from his, scared he would get any bad first impressions.
I noticed beads of sweat trickling down my temples.
I'm sure he noticed my behavior, as his eyes subtly squinted, trying to read me.
I quickly wiped off the sweat, drying my hands with the side of my pants, now obviously showing that I'm incredibly nervous.
Giving up, he sighs, "Nice to meet you. Your actual first day is tomorrow, so go home and rest." He almost sounded as if he just wanted to get rid of me.
"O-of course, see you tomorrow, officer." I saluted before walking out, turning around to take one more quick glance. It wouldn't hurt, right?
His eyes met mine, putting me in a daze.
Before I could comprehend what was happening, my chest met the door with heavy force, earning a loud grunt and another embarrassing scene from me.
He coughed, signaling for me to quickly recover and leave.
I furiously blinked, trying to fight back the door to pitiful tears threatening to release.
I can't let him know on my first day that I'm weaker than I seem; not yet.
Once I had slammed his door shut, I sighed in relief as a heavy weight I didn't even know existed had lifted.
What happened just now?
I shook my head in astonishment, making my
way out of the building. As I walked, my eyes roamed around the space, them coming into contact with several other officers, serious looks on their faces as they scoffed, probably at the sight of a female officer.
Great.
I was on my way when a fellow officer walked toward me.
His hair was a ruffled caramel, and his face was similar to that of my partner, except his features were softer and playful, his mouth curved into a sloppy smile.
Was everyone here so damn gorgeous?
"Hello, you must be the new officer. I'm Roger, your partner's former partner." He greeted, his eyes screaming 'friendly'.
My eyes widened in realization.
"Hello! So nice to meet you, officer-?" I wasn't aware of his last name.
"It's Tompent, but you could just call me Roger." He answered my thoughts.
"Right, Roger." I gave him a casual smile.
"Well, I'll see you maybe later." He walked away, not before giving me a harmless wink.
I just nodded in response, my stomach churning as I just wanted to go home at this point.
"First official day, and I'm already intimidated by everyone here!" I quietly exclaimed to myself.
I had a feeling this was only gonna get harder.
The reason?
My one and only partner.
