Everly has anticipated for this all her life. Despite the odds of getting chosen out of millions of people, she still had faith. Everly dashed to her mailbox hoping that the mail has arrived. Once she was there, she hesitated at opening the mailbox. She prayed and wished with all her hope before she slowly opened it. She closed her eyes, anxious at what she will see inside. She peeked with one of her eyes and just saw pitch black. Everly took a deep sigh before she slouched inside her home.
"Welcome home, Ev!" her mom chirped. Her brother, dad, mom and even her dog were all surrounding her.
"Did you get in?" her younger brother asked. She shook her head in response. Her family was giving glances at each other, yet Everly was too glum to notice.
"Well think again." Her father handed her the infamous envelope. Everly's eyes widened and practically popped right out of her socket the second her father placed the acceptance letter in her hands.
"Is this real? Did you guys just make this to make me feel better?" Everly was in denial about the whole thing. For seventeen years, the moment has finally arrived. She stared at the envelope in awe, not wanting to tear it apart because of how well presented it looked. Her brother snatched the envelope out of her hands and tore it himself and handed the letter back to her. Everly read the letter word for word and when she got to the end, she jumped with joy. She was shrieking and her family joined in on her happiness as they were jumping in circles.
"I can't believe this is actually happening!" she said with glee.
"Hurry up and pack your things. We're leaving first thing tomorrow," her mother said. Everly rushed into her room and slammed the door. Before she could pack she had to tell all of her friends. She felt like bragging to everyone about how she was accepted to one of the most prestige schools in the world.-When Everly arrived at Rendon, she greeted everyone with respect and admiration. Arriving at her dorm in minutes, she gave a friendly welcome to her new roommate.
"Hi, what's your name?"
"Cora. Cora Winslow."
"My names Everly Yamamoto but you can just go by my first name." She felt like she was creeping her new roommate out so she stopped smiling.
"Isn't this exciting? Aren't you glad you're here at Rendon? Gosh, I can't wait to meet all these people and decorate our dorm together," Everly gushed.
"I'm not that excited about it," Cora said. Everly gasped at her comment.
"How come? It's practically been a dream of mine to be here."
"It's just... Out of all the people they choose, why me?"
"You're special. They just don't accept anyone. You have something that other people don't have. You just haven't figured it out yet."
"I guess." Everly approached Cora and gave her a soothing rub on her back to comfort her."With my help, I'll make sure you fit in at Rendon in no time."-It was lunchtime when the incident occurred. Everly was too excited at receiving delicious food and got carried away with figuring out where to sit. She turned around and bumped into a blonde girl, spilling some of her food on her.
"I'm so sorry!" Everly apologized and frantically tried to wipe the mess off. The girl grabbed her wrist before she could get a chance to clean it.
"No one touches me," she muttered under her breath. Everly didn't expect there would be a 'Mean Girls' at this school. Her and her posse just walk away from her, leaving Everly stunned."Psssst!" Everly turned to whoever was trying to get her attention. Two girls were gesturing for Everly to sit with them. She felt flustered after the whole scene, so she hid her red face by looking down at the ground.
"Gosh, I feel like everyone is staring at me," Everly pouted, touching her heated cheeks. "Don't worry they'll forget about it."
"I'm Harley and she's Valentina."
"I'm Everly."
"The girl you encountered is Catalina Rendon."
"The daughter of the headmaster? I thought it was just a myth." Harley shook her head.
"So those rumors were true? About how she can get anyone expelled with just the magic word?"
"Pretty much. She practically relies on her father to get what she wants around here. Anyone who messes with her doesn't speak about her or Rendon when they leave," said Harley.
"She seems like a bitch. I suggest you stay away from her," Valentina suggested. Everly glanced around the cafeteria in search of Catalina. She sat at possibly the largest table and surrounding her was a bigger group of people who practically worship the ground she walks on. "Everyone seems to love her," said Everly. Guys and girls were rushing to Catalina, wanting to eat with her or checking if she was alright. Somehow, there's this unwanted desire for Everly wanting to befriend her.
