H.G. Pov
“Sir,” someone softly shook my shoulder,”Sir, the plane is about to land.”
I open my eyes stiffly, a headache starting to brew. Everyone else is putting on their seatbelts, so I do the same. The descent is a bit bumpy, but otherwise I don’t notice. It finally comes to a halt, and people start leaving. I get in line, and know its gonna take longer for me to get out. Im in the very back, I could barely afford the money to get a ticket let alone a good class. Most of the money I had saved up was towards my the apartment I was renting, I didn’t have much left over.
The college I was going to is one of the nicest ones in California. Because of my good grades I get to go for free, but I have to maintain them or else I’ll have to start paying. Which I couldn’t afford.
I applied for a job at a nearby library so I could afford rent. I also want to send money back to my mom, she deserves it.
After I got my suitcase I headed outside. I stuck out my arms and whistled, just like I saw a guy do in a movie once. Sure enough, a taxi cab drive over to me.
“Where ya heading?” A mexican man asks me.
I get in and show him the address.
“That’s quite far from here, are you sure you will have enough money?”
I only have 200 dollars, total, and I didn’t want to be using half of it.
“Um…..”
“Hey, its okay. I can tell you’re new here, so this one can be free.”
“Thank you,” I gratefully thank him, for I was scared I would have to hitch hike.
As he drove there he points out fancy places or historical landmarks. Cali is gorgeous, just like it is in the movies. So are all the people. It is just an amazing place.
He pulls up to an apartment building.
“Here you are.”
“Thank you, so much!”
He nods, driving off as soon as I get out of the car. I wasn’t sure where to go, so I walk up to the building. I try to open it, but its locked. Now what?
I stand there, probably looking like an idiot.
“May I help you? A small brunette woman walks up to me.
She looks to be in her early thirties, late twenties. Beautiful, very, wih her caramel colored eyes and heart shaped face.
“Um, well, you see.. I um-”
“You’re the new tenant, right? Hamilton Grier?”
“Uh, yeah. Thats me.”
She nods and unlocks the door.
“Follow me.”
I do as she says, heading up three flights of staircases and a bit more than halfway down a hallway before stopping. I read the number, 262, on the door. She opens it, heading inside and grabbing a key off the counter.
“This is to get inside your apartment, do not lose it. I suggest keeping your door locked at all times, anything stolen is not my fault. Now if it is broken into, and there are signs it was broken into, you will file a report to the police. But no one has been broken into, so I highly doubt it. The key is also to get inside the apartment building, but just because it fits the lock does not mean it fits all the other locks in the building. So don’t try and get into other residents apartments. Would you like a tour?”
I nod my head.
“Well, we are in the kitchen right now, equipped with a microwave, stove, dishwasher, and refridgerator. Next is the living room. As you can see, there is some furniture, but not much.” I nod once again, taking in the couch and coffee table.
