You fascinated me, cloaked in shadows and secrecy,

The beauty of a broken angel.

The helper in the Red Room was indeed the most mysterious thing about this compartamentalized enviroment. No one knew who he was, or how he came to be. Not even his name. He was simply the Asset, and would train the girls. Natalia Romanova was curious as to who he was, but didn't dare ask. It was too risky, but there was something absolutely thrilling in the danger.

I ventured carefully, afraid of what you thought I'd be,

But pretty soon I was entangled.

The combat training started, and he was sent to break the girls, to search out the strongest of the 28. Everyone of them but number 5; a petite girl with red hair and captivating green eyes, was inferior. He was interested to see how for she could go, and how much she could take without breaking.

You take me by the hand,

I question who I am.

After months of rigorous training, number 5 came to be his pupil. She talked to him, and he responded. The Asset began to find an affinity for this new girl. Through all this, she made him think about who he really was. What was he before becoming the Winter Soldier? Who let him make the switch? What happened to him?

Teach me how to fight,

I'll show you how to win,

You're my mortal flaw,

I'm your fatal sin.

She beat him. Natalia Romanova had won in a fight between them. He couldn't be prouder or more attracted to her. One day, the tension that had been building for so long was released, and she became his personal kryptonite. His fatal sin. He was her own mortal flaw. Widows are not supposed to love. Soldiers have no time for novelties such as romance. Despite all this, the pair became a match for one another.

Let me feel the sting,

The burn,

The pain,

Under my skin.

All good things must come to an end, and so did the lovers endeavors. They could only hide for so long, and besides: Mother Russia was the most important power to obey, not the temptation of lust or the longing for adoration. They had to go their separate ways, but no matter how long it was in the past, the burning passion still kindled, a flame afire in their hearts.

Put me to the test,

I'll prove that I am strong,

Won't let myself believe,

That what we feel is wrong.

Finally see what you knew was inside me all along.

She knew he could overcome his personal doubts, and he knew she would catapult over any challenge presented to her, and land on her feet, nimbly. She could tiptoe away from a situation and leave it in flames without breaking down into tears, and he could easily do the same. Don't get attatched to something, for it hurts more to leave, they had said. If only it was that easy.

That behind this soft exterior,

Lies a warrior.

The both of them had gone through so much hardship, and they could handle what life threw at them, blow it up, leave the place in flames, and still not bat an eyelash. She could take the blunt hardships with a stolid expression. He could handle the wipings and cryocycles. It was just how they lived.

My mind refused,

To separate the lies from truth,

And search the past my mind created.

The memories of their endeavors went lost in a flurry of falsely implanted knowledge, and they forgot about each other, at least the details. The feeling of longing still hurt, and nothing could soften it. Confusion and heartbreak followed and yet they continued without breaking their steady strides.

Until they remembered. The smoke cleared, and they realized what they were missing in each other. So they continued on, searching desperately for each other until they were finally found. Both broken and beaten, more so thn before, but clinging to each other until they felt at home.
