Prologue #4

Midnight Disaster

DAYTIME

OST - Beautiful Lie, Despair - Syndrome

SEEING that the two were clearly in too much pain to get up, I ran towards them, leaving Pandora behind with Ritsuki in my haste to help them.

"Are you alright?" I asked the redhead in concern, my hand outstretched, "That was a pretty bad fall you had there..."

Grabbing on to my hand with one eye open, she grimaced, moving to stand. "Well, it's not as bad as I thought it would be," the girl commented, dizzily holding her head.

She was dressed in a formal red shirt and a black pencil skirt, giving off a professional appearance. Red and black striped stockings could partially be seen as they were covered by light brown combat boots. A pair of white gloves matched the cravat around her neck.

"That's good to hear," I sighed in relief.

"Yeah," she nodded, holding a hand to her chin in thought, "My landing was actually pretty soft, now that I think about it."

I scratched my cheek sheepishly, unsure of how to break the news to the teenager.

Come to think of it, was Shion alright? After all, he hadn't gotten up. The most that the Ultimate Drug Lord had done was roll around a bit as he writhed in pain. The girl hadn't even seemed to notice that her fall had been broken.

To be honest, I was beginning to pity that his heroic deed had gone unnoticed.

Worriedly, I reached towards him. "Ah, Shion--" I began in concern.

"--At any rate, it's nice to make your acquaintance, " the girl continued brightly, amicably pointing towards herself, "My name's Sarada Karinagi. I'm the Ultimate Judge."

Her orange eyes seemed to sparkle as she spoke.

"Murano," I informed her, retracting my hand at her distraction, "I'm known as the Ultimate Bounty Hunter."

Sarada tilted her head in confusion. "No last name?"

"None worth mentioning, at least," I averted my gaze towards Ritsuki as she approached us, evading the subject.

There was no sign of our other companion.

"Where's Pandora?" I asked the amnesiac in surprise, my eyebrow raised.

Ritsuki frowned as she stopped next to us, jabbing a thumb over her shoulder. "She disappeared as soon as Sarada here mentioned her title," she explained, "I suppose as the Ultimate Witness, seeing a judge may bring up bad memories."

Sarada's expression darkened. "I understand her concern."

A grim silence fell over us.

Having set her laptop down in a secure place, the brunette that she was with ran over to us, knocking me out of the way as she grabbed the judge's hands in concern. In the process, she accidentally kicked Shion's head.

I grimaced, recalling my initial desire to help my fellow comrade. Unfortunately, I had been shoved far out of helping range by the tan-skinned girl.

Making my way back over to them, I watched the scenario play out.

"Oh my gosh, are you alright?" she fussed, her bright orange eyes flashing with concern, "I'm so sorry I asked you to do something so dangerous. You could have died because of me!"
