At 5:30 AM, my alarm clock went off. Me being myself, I simply turned over to the other side and covered my ear with my extra pillow. The blazing alarm clock stopped after a minute and I knew that I had another eight minutes before it rang again. My mother, however, decided to barge into my room at that exact moment.

"You have eight minutes before I come back with a cup of water in my hand," she said as she stood in the doorway.

"But Mom-," I groaned as I rubbed my eyes making it difficult to see clearly, "it's only 5:30. Just let me sleep for a little longer, please?"

"No. It's the first day of school and you have to get dressed. Come down to the kitchen when you're done," she shouted over her shoulder as she turned and walked down the stairs.

Knowing that she would actually pour water over me, I chose to drag myself out of bed and walk into the bathroom that was a couple feet away from my king-sized bed. As I stumbled into my private bathroom, I looked into the mirror and realized how bad I looked. My dark brown hair resembled a bird's nest and my ocean eyes were barely open.

Half an hour later, I slowly walked down the stairs to meet my mom in the kitchen. There she was, sitting on a barstool on the marble island in the middle of the spacious kitchen. In her hand was a cup of what I assumed was coffee and her other hand held the towns newspaper. When she heard me coming down the steps, she placed her drink down and looked up.

"And there's my beautiful daughter," she said jokingly.

"Are you telling me that I wasn't just as beautiful thirty minutes ago with my nest of hair?" I placed my hand on my heart as an exaggeration. I sat down in a seat two chairs away from her.

"Oh honey, you look like a reincarnation of a cave woman when you wake up," she placed her newspaper down and slid a plate towards me. The plate had avocado toast on it and a couple of strawberries on the side.

"I got my looks from you," I reminded her. She let out a laugh and walked over to the sink to place her own plate down.

"You could be adopted and you'd never know," she looked over her shoulder to me as she began washing her plate.

"Ouch Ma. And to think that I thought I was your favorite child," I shook my head.

"You're my only child," she deadpanned. I winked at her as I placed my plate in the sink and began to walk up to my room.

"Bye Mama I'll see you later. Have fun at work," I told her as I approached my door.

Today was the first day of a new school year. I had recently just moved to some small town on Long Island in New York. My old life in Florida couldn't even compare to the things I've experienced in the first two weeks I've spent in New York.

As usual tourists would, my mom and I spent a day in New York City. My feet might still have blisters from the amount of walking I did that day, but the sight is something I wouldn't forget. At night, the city skyline is just so beautiful to get caught up in. Sure, I've already experienced my fair share of rude New Yorkers, but hey, I am now technically a New Yorker.

I had already received a tour of the new high school that I was supposed to go to and it's fair to say that I am petrified to get the car and drive to school. In Florida, I've lived in Birchwood my whole life. I had my best friends and my entire family there. Long Creek was a bigger town than Birchwood and I'm not an idiot, I know that by high school everyone has already found their friend groups. To add to my great luck, I have trust issues which will make making friends a thousand times harder.

Hopping into the white jeep wrangler my mom bought me a year ago, I made my way to school. The license plate is still my Florida license plate which means I had to go to the DMV and get a New York license plate.

As I reached a stop sign, I turned on the radio and began jamming out to erase some of the stress building up. When I reach the highway, I was full out singing my heart out to the songs that played on the radio. I had my windows down, my hair flowing all over the place and I was leaning into the window with my left arm as I used my right hand to steer the wheel. At a red light, I looked to my left and saw a car filled with teenage boys who seemed to notice me at the same moment I looked over to them.

"What up cutie," a guy with brown hair yelled out the window. His friends started laughing and punching his shoulder.

Since the light had just turned green, I winked at him and drove off. A couple of blocks later, I realized the car was behind me. I looked into the mirror and noticed the driver looking at me. I tilted my head in amusement and smiled. He only smirked and shook his head.

Pulling into the high school parking lot, I struggled to find a parking spot but after a couple of minutes of driving around, I finally found one somewhat near the entrance. The car with the boys pulled into a spot three cars away from me.

Grabbing my bag from the passenger seat and checking how I look in the mirror, I stepped out of my car. The guys had realized that it was me at the light and they began to make their way over to where I was standing. I was looking at the school I had visited a week or two ago.

"You're new," a blond guy, the driver, said. I looked him up and down before I pushed my sunglasses up towards the top of my head. Thankfully, my hair didn't get stuck in the glasses.

"Is it that noticeable?" I questioned as I looked into brown eyes that seemed to look like honey in the warm sun.

"The fact that you're just standing there and looking at the school gives off a vibe. If not that, then your license plate is a dead giveaway," he tilted his head to the side. I looked at the guy with the brown hair who yelled out the window at the red light.

"Want to help a girl out?" I asked and pointed to the school. Although I already knew where I was going, I had nothing to lose by asking some cute guys to help me out.

"Are we going to get a name gorgeous?" the brown haired guy asked.

"What's yours?" I immediately questioned him. The blond driver noticed that I answered a question with another question but he didn't say anything to his friend. From looking at the three guys standing in front of me, the brunette was the shortest. The other two blonds were taller than me, but not tall enough to be towering above me.

"I'm Ryder," the brown-haired guy replied, "this is Nate," he pointed to the blond guy who hasn't spoken a word yet, "and this is Jackson," he pointed to the tallest blondie who drove the car.

"Nice to meet you," I smiled, "when does the bell ring?"

"I never got a name," Ryder realized.

"I never said I was going to tell you mine," and before he could say anything, I interrupted, "ask Jackson."

Ryder turned to Jackson and all he said was, "She's got a point, dude."

"I hope I see you boys sometime during the day." I said and turned around and made my way into the brick building that seemed ancient yet modern. I had already gotten my schedule and memorized it, but I didn't really know where the classrooms were. When I heard a bell ring and every other student rush into the near classrooms, I began to panic. My first period class was english and I really did not want to walk in late, but with my luck, that is exactly what happened.

When I finally found the classroom five minutes later, I took a deep breath preparing myself for the new school and school year. With that, I pushed the wooden door open into a classroom filled with high school students that snapped their eyes onto me. Here we go, Skye. It's a new beginning.
