THE BEGINNING

When she and her brother had founded the Volturi — along with Marcus — she had been forced to lead from the shadows. Even as women became more respected, Aro believed that by her openly leading the coven as his equal, it would harm their reputation. It was not hard to resent him when she could have had him on her knees before he could move, if she wished. The thought had crossed her mind on multiple occasions — of course, all empires fall from the inside. Had Aro — and everyone else — not feared her, Valentina was certain that he would have had one of the Guard kill her. Even Jane and Alec seemed to cower in her presence, knowing that the, almost always, silent woman was cold and ruthless.

WHEN EDWARD CULLEN STEPPED INTO their Throne Room, with his tell tale golden eyes that would lead her back to Carlisle, she had to take the opportunity. Valentina gave herself the mission of insuring the changing of Isabella Swan, daring her brother to disagree with her. The only member of the Olympic Coven who was not unsure of her, was Alice — she presumed the clairvoyant vampire had seen something that would gain her trust. That was, until Carlisle laid his eyes on her and almost wept at the sight of her. But, one member still seemed to skirt around her presence and it could not have been for his suspicions.
