"What is that?"
"A gallon, idiot. Stop stating the obvious, will you?"
"No, I mean what do you intend to do with that? Mom, those are not allowed inside the plane."
"I have an excuse so they'll let me."
"And what is that?"
"My drink"
"Argghh. Don't be ridiculous, mom. You could carry a bottled water rather than a gallon. They'll just laugh at you. Honestly, what is that for?"
"Okay fine, I'll say it. This is for me to float if the plane would crash or something."
"What?! Pffftthahahaha.......hahaha........"
"I know. I know. That is really --- ........."
"........ stupid of you. Hahaha..... How can you be sure that you'll end up crashing into the sea? What if it's in land? then there's no use for that stupid gallon of yours."
"Yeah, you're right. But I can't help it, I can't die. You two are just too young to lose a mother and everything I can I'll do it just to stay alive for the two of you."
"Mom, don't you think it was an insult to God. That act of yours completely shows that you don't trust Him."
"It is but ... I am a mother. Please understand."
"But He is the God....."
"Yeah He is....... and he could take my life anytime."
"Mom, God never took anyone's life."
"Yes because that life is never yours in the first place. You just borrowed it and you have to return it the day you'll die. Sweetie, everything is temporary. Me being your mother will soon last when I die. When you die, you just left everything here and memories you have with a person will soon be forgotten. That is the sad truth but despite that, a person would want to still live longer for the person he loves. He wanted to cherish those moments for a while before it was gone. He would be selfish in a way. He tend to offer himself everything that he wanted while he still live just to fulfill himself. And the only thing that fulfills a person in every way is seeing the one nearest to his heart happy."
"But mom, that doesn't sound as selfishness. It was more of a selfless love."
She smiled at me. A genuine smile.
"That is the selfishness of the unselfish love, sweetie. Sacrifice is the key term. Love is indeed the most powerful thing in the world. It may lead you to good or in bad. Good intentions results to bad deeds and same as the reverse. What just matters to that person is the welfare of the one he treasured. He would do anything for that person even without thinking of our God."
"Im confused. So, what is the right thing to do now mom?"
"Listen to your heart. That will tell what you believe is right. Even God Himself already sacrificed because of His love to us. Do as what He did."
A precious tear rolled down my cheek. It wasn't long 'til I realized Im already crying. A memory that will soon last. But the impact to me remained through the years passed. I am making a decision now and I assure you that it will be the right thing, mom.
