Darkness. Her gaze was met by nothing but darkness. The only thing she could see was the faded figure of her ceiling fan that spun in lethargic circles. Her silver eyes searched for something more. Something to take her mind away from her memories. She slowly rocked to one side, smiling at the larger mound that lie beside her. 'Perfect.' She stroked a strand of his russet locks, in hopes that the lingering image of her lost mother would vanish. He stirred, and let out a muffled "Hmmph", causing her to giggle. The musical sound woke him. He rolled to his right until he was able to stare right into her silver gaze, which had been disturbing his slumber. "Unable to sleep, Ace?" He mumbled, feebly lifting his hand to touch the side of her freckled features. "I'd be lying if I said I could sleep, Shay." Jace replied, shifting under the warm covers. "I'll make you some coffee, if it suits you." The young man suggested, offering a sad smile. "I'm sorry." He kissed her head. Shay knew what Jace was experiencing. He began to crawl out from under the sheets, but stopped, stifling a cry, when his love let out a sob. He restraint himself from scooping her into his arms, and gently lie back down beside her, pulling her closer. "I love you." He cooed, cradling her with his strong arms. 'All shall be okay.' She told herself, burying her face further into his warm chest. And so they laid there. Clutching each other as if their life depended upon it. To lighten the mood, Shay chuckled, and his chest vibrated. "If you want coffee, I suggest letting me go." He stroked the small girls back, kissing the top of her head, and inhaling her sweet smell. She let out a small whimper of protest, but loosened her grip. Shay detached himself, and slid out from under the covers, shivering at the wave of chill that met him. He sauntered out of their room, brushing his russet hair to the side, and disappeared into the hallway, the sound of his footsteps fading as he walked further away. And then his footsteps were no more. 'Oh how I love you, Shay.' She thought, nuzzling herself deeper into her plush pillow. Finally, she was asleep again. Her dreams were happy; the image of her and Shay drifted in and out of her dreams. And she slept.
