MELANIE HARRINGTON, a girl only known for her last name. no thanks to her brother, the girl had become an enigma within the halls of hawkins high. when people had realized she was thee sister of thee steve 'the hair' harrington a look of shock always washed over their faces, barely believing it. sometimes melanie didn't believe it herself.
being only one year apart the two siblings had once been close, at least melanie thought so. closer than they were now. once steve hit middle school and became 'king steve' he left his little sister in the dust. he would deny this of course. he would never do such a thing. but for most of melanie's life she felt as if she were a ghost in her own town. her own school. the only time she didn't feel so invisible was at home. their parents didn't pick favorites. they loved their children equally. steve would disagree though, saying their father liked melanie just a little bit more. but the girl would deny it and say it was only because his dad wanted more from him. his father couldn't be done over by big hair and a nice smile.
and besides living in the back light of her brother melanie's life is anything but exciting. while steve goes to parties and has many friends, the girl stays home and has one good friend. but melanie never seemed to mind being invisible. at least that's what she told herself. made herself believe it.
but as she watches her brother soak up all the life within the halls and town of hawkins and no one even gives her a second glance, she thinks maybe she cares. just a little.
she doesn't realize just how much it has effected her until a new boy moves to town. the boy soon coming to war with her brother, wanting to steal the title of 'king' within the halls of hawkins. it doesn't quite concern melanie until the boy sets his targets on her. deeming her the easiest way to get to her brother. something the girl tries to ignore. tries to avoid. but living in the shadow of her brother for so many years makes her resolve so much more weaker than she cares to admit, and soon she finds herself rebelling and falling into a trap of heartbreak and grief.
