It's year Year 2325. Today is the day of the Kobayashi Maru examination. The exam to test the students of Starfleet Academy. However, this is not a test of skill, it is a test of inevitable acceptance of failure and death.

"Quickly! Quickly! Put up the shields!" Namjoon yelled as he sat in the chair. "We have no more time to lose, we have to win this."

"What shall we do captain? If we enter the neutral zone we will be completely obliterated!" Jungkook yelled as he looked toward Namjoon worried.

Namjoon stopped in his tracks, "Wait... enter the zone!" his eyes widened. BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!
The crew looked around in confusion.

"What the hell is going on???" Hoseok screamed as he backed away from the control panel.

"We're practically surrounded!" Taehyung shouted as he began to panic.

Jin was practially screaming whilst running around the bridge, hysterically scared for his life.

"Stop!" Everyone looked towards Namjoon, "fire on all enemy ships!" He ordered, a determined expression on his face as he stared out of the large window at the Klingon war ships.

"Wait, what!" Taehyung looked at namjoon as if he was crazy. "We can't do that captain! We are surrounded! Their sheilds are up!"

"Are they?" Namjoon asked, cocking an eyebrow. Taehyung looked closely back at the screen, squinting his eyes. The radars showed no abnormal energy surrounding the ships. He slowly relaxed and gave an awkward smile to Jungkook who was sitting across the room from him watching in anticipation, "good to go captain, open fire."

They then proceeded to attack the Klingon ships, destroying their weaker defence systems and shooting down their engines.

The entire time, the crew was in a manic state of panic. Whilst all this commotion was happening on the bridge, Min Yoongi, the engineer specialist, was working on tracking and marking the Kobayashi crew, ready for teleportation. Once he locked on, he immediately beamed them up to safety. "WE'VE GOT TO GET OUT OF HERE!" yoongi ran into the control room yelling frantically, "USE FULL WARP SPEED! WE HAVE THE KOBAYASHI MARU CREW SAFE ON BOARD! MISSION IS COMPLETE!"

The captain looked up quickly, a wave of realization, shock and also relief taking over him. He then pulled the lever all the way back with his sweaty palm, instantly initiating full warp speed taking them to safety.

It was silent. All that could be heard was the fast breathing of the seven crew members all calming down from the adrenaline filled experience.

*Outside the control room, through an invisible window the examiners were watching*

"It's... It's impossible..." an examiner said as she looked towards the familiar vulcan beside her. "How did they beat your test Commander Spock?" She asked in a confused tone, her eyes wide with wonder "i thought it was unbeatable."

"Hmmm, I thought so too...." he said, his eyes not leaving the young crew before him.

"This crew was assembled today at random, they don't know anything about eachother and have never interacted before now. How did they work together so well?" The woman asked in astonishment.

*Back to examination room*

Beeep, "congratulations you have completed the final examination" an ortamated voice echoed through the room as the door slid open revealing the wash of bright light from outside.

The boys rushed out falling on the ground from exhaustion and relief.

"Congratulations...." a tall man with dark hair and pointed ears walked up to them almost staring them down. "You guys did a pretty good job in there..."

The boys immediately stood up quickly and greeted the man.
"How did you do it?" The man asked, "how on earth did you beat my test?" He looked at them skeptically.

The boys stood there not really knowing what to say, just looking at eachother for answers. "We just.. did it." Taehyung spoke up scratching the back of his neck.

"Hmmm..." the tall man then turned around and proceeded to walk away, leaving the boys alone. Everyone looked at eachother in confusion.
"Was that that famous guy?" Jin asked, "you know, the vulcan guy?"

"Yes, it was" Namjoon began, "his name is Commander Spock, hes very well known here at Starfleet. He created the test we just did." Namjoon covered his face with his hands. The boys all looked at him "he was the one who created the famous Kobayashi Maru test. It is supposed to be impossible to beat." He looked up at them. "And we just beat it." He began pacing around the empty hallway as he mumbled incoherent words to himself.
Yoongi gasped, "how the hell did we complete it???"

"It didn't seem to be that difficult." Jungkook said shrugging his shoulders, "how could it be unbeatable when there was so many possibilities. The test was specifically programmed do do a specific sequence of events. We beat it from using our rational knowledge."

"Yeah, we didn't panic as much as most people do, that probably explains how we made such rational and effective choices" Taehyung spoke.

Namjoon glared at Taehyung. "You call THAT not panicing?" Namjoon rolled his eyes and began scratching his head trying to think.

Later at Starfleet assembly:

The seven familiar boys were sat near the back of a large hall filled with all the students of Starfleet Academy. At the front, sat at a desk, was the team of the highest authorities in Starfleet.

"Cadet Kim Namjoon, evidence has been submitted to this council, suggesting that you have violated the ethical codes of conduct to regulation 17.43 of the star fleet code." A member of the council spoke.

Namjoon looked at the others beside him, "what he hell does that mean?" he whispered to Jin who didn't respond. He got up from his seat, walking down the steps, towards the front, knowing he would have to debate the council form these false accusations.
The tall dark haired man from earlier walked over as well.
"This here is Commander Spock, he has programmed the Kobayashi Maru exam for the last 6 years." A councilor established.

"You cadet Kim, somehow must've managed to install a subroutine into the programme, therefore changing the conditions of the test." Commander Spock firmly accused.

"An academic vernacular. In simple terms, you cheated!" The council member spoke.

"The programme itself is a cheat, you programmed it to be unwinnable. But clearly it is not, we beat it fair and square" Namjoon retaliated.

"Your argument disregards the possibility of a no-win scenario." Spock said plainly.

"I don't believe in no-win scenarios" Namjoon looked up staring at Spock, rage in his eyes that he was forced to hold back. He tightened his fist. "We beat that test fair and square! How dare you acuse me and the team of cheating! It must've been a mistake you made whilst coding it yourself"

"The purpose of the test was not to win, it was to induce fear and for crew members to accept certain death." Spock explained, "every crew must learn to accept their certain end in this type of scenario"

"What kind of crew gives up and allows everyone onboard to die!" Namjoon almost yelled as he became more and more angered.

"Cadet Kim!" The councilor intervened, "you must not be so angered by the logical truth. If you really think you stand a chance at survival in space then enlighten me"
Everyone stayed silent. Namjoon just looked down, almost giving up.

"Councilor, may i suggest something that may confirm his and his crew's responsibility or potential innocence?" Spock intervened.
Namjoon furrowed his eyebrows as he listened to what the Vulcan had to say.

"Ofcourse, commander Spock" the councilor agreed, "and what may it be?"
