A day in December

It was that time of year again just outside Zurich, Switzerland.

Snow was on the ground.

City streets lined with festive Yule tide decorations wreaths on every pole and bright lights snaked around the base to near the top of each one.

Children laughing, playing as they run up and down the sidewalks.

Stores packed with patrons shopping for those they loved most. The music of the season filled the air.

People walking on the sidewalk with good will all around.

All this as one Angela Ziegler walked down to street smiling warmly as always as she took in all the activity.

It was fifteen days away from Christmas Eve, and Angela still was looking for that one gift for her special liebling, Amelie. It was their first Christmas together as a couple, so Angela wanted to make it as special as she could for her love. She brimmed thinking about it.

Not only that, but everything about Christmas Angela adored. The decorations such as the lights that go on the tree to her favorite Christmas mug that she brings out the day after Thanksgiving every year. The days when she wasn't at work and she sat on the windowsill drinking hot chocolate, or at some times coffee while watching the snow fall. Of course, making cookies of all kinds. She was looking forward to having even more traditions, hopefully now, that Amelie Lacroix had her own traditions for them to share. Then there's the new ones to come that they would come up with as a couple as well. Angela loved this time of year.

Thinking about getting Amelie something that would remind her of the first time they got together, she continued to look in the different stores. There were so many to choose from, including novelty to consignment. Any gift wouldn't do. It had to be something special.

She smiled again.

I wonder what she's doing right now. Angela mused.

She noticed her favorite little coffee shop where a friend of hers worked in the mornings mostly.
She had the urge to go into one of the stores to buy something sweet, perhaps a muffin or some holiday candy of the sort as her stomach grumbled. A coffee would have to do because she was always watching her figure most of the time.

She walked up the street to their favorite coffee shop that they always went to ever since they started dating. It was the kind of small, cute, hole in the wall type places that were locally owned. The kind of place Angela adored, rather than some mainstream coffee shop. Plus, the obvious of it being their coffee shop as a couple.

She opened the door and headed inside as the warmth hit her face. It was welcomed from the brisk temperature outside. At the counter, there were a few people ahead of her, as it was still during the morning rush after all.

She pulled her phone out of her coat pocket and glanced as it lit up to see if Amelie had texted her. Sure enough, a couple emojis a kiss face and purple heart. She must have not heard the familiar ding that she set it to to specify that it was her. There was also a message on there that read

Thinking of you, ma cherie.😘💜

Angela smiled even more than usual and replied:

And I as well of you my liebling. Miss you, I love you😘💛

Her phone dinged and vibrated with a special sound that let her know it was her Schatz with a reply.
