Chapter One

Annabeth's silver flats were wearing out the carpet as she paced back and forth. She hadn't slept properly in a week and dark circles had began to appear under her eyes, her brown hair falling around her shoulders as she paced back and forth. Whenever she closed her eyes Jacob was always there. His hazel eyes widening as the knife hits him in the back. She could still hear him calling her name the night they were running down Chapel Street.

They had just finished dinner and were on their way home when a guy in a black hoodie, which covered his face, had jumped off the roof of the restaurant. He came down throwing a knife into the dog in front of her and Jacob. All she could remember was that the guy had thrown Not only one knife but two.

One had gone straight through Jacob's back. He screamed and yelled, 'Annie run!' That's what he called her. He kept saying Annie run, over and over.

Annabeth had to stop at the end of the second block, she hadn't realised that hot tears were running down her face, she fell back on the wall and sat there crying.

This had been two weeks ago now, and Annabeth still felt really bad about leaving her brother behind with the guy who had jumped off the restaurant roof. She had gone back the next day, but there was nothing there, apart from the knife that had gone through her brother's back.

Annabeth kept this knife on her side table, vowing that if she ever found the person who had thrown the knife she would stab him in the back with the same knife.

Harrison was sitting on a chair in the lounge room and Lachlan was leaning against the wall by the window. Harrison ran his hand through his sooty black hair before he spoke, 'I got the dog, but I also put a knife through a mortal boy's back. I cleaned up all of his blood and took his body, but left behind the family dagger by mistake. By the way there was a girl with him and she came back the next day and took the dagger, so I have no idea where it is now. Dad will be very angry that we have lost the family dagger.'

Lachlan just put his hands in his pocket and sighed, 'yeah, but he's not my dad, and he will be angrier at you than me. I stayed on the roof and watched. I did say that it was a bad idea, I didn't want to get myself messed up in any mortal stuff.'

Harrison put a finger to his mouth indicating for him to be quiet. 'Shhhh ... He's coming through the front door, I just sensed him use it.'

'How the hell do you know when he walks though the front door it's not natur... Mr _________ we where just talking about you.'

Mr ________ had a very quiet step, which would give anyone the creeps. 'Did you do what I asked?'

'Yeah we did,' said Lachlan quickly so that Harrison didn't talk first, but just rolled his eyes when he started talking.

'But, I also hit a mortal boy with one of the daggers. He's in the basement, if you want to go and look at him.'

Mr ______ gave Harrison an angry look, 'I most certainly will. I might even know the kid. I have that funny feeling you know.' And with that he stalked out of the room.

Lachlan was the first to speak. 'That was a bit creepy, but your dad is always creepy!'

'Do you mean him, or his movements?' Added Harrison.

'Both, he sends a shiver up my spine every time he is in the room, it's not a good feeling.'

'Yeah, I get that sometimes, but it's just his weird quietness that does it. I don't think it's the best thing to have a dad who is that quiet, he can sneak up on anyone without making a sound. It's amazing to watch though.'
