"What did you see?"
"I didn't see anything."
"Then why did you scream?"
"I screamed because I didn't see anything."
"That doesn't make any sense."
"Doesn't it?"
"No. I mean, if you didn't see anything..."
"That's the scariest part, isn't it? Not being able to see anything." Her best friend Avan didn't respond. He just stared at Jane until she continued to talk. Avan just wanted to understand what happened to her. He had developed serious feelings for Jane. Feelings a best friend shouldn't have. He just cared so much and wanted more than her friendship.
So he sat and listened to her talk, no matter how crazy she sounded. Avan gave Jane his full attention when she began to stand up frome her chair. She circled him while she spoke. "Close your eyes, Avan, and whatever you do don't open them until I tell you to. Now listen closely. You can feel me in this room, can't you? You can feel me, and you can hear me. And if I wanted you to, you could even taste me."
With this last statement she stopped circling Avan and stood in front of him. Jane bent down until she was level with Avan, only inches from his face. From his mouth. She leaned even closer still, and whispered, "Don't open your eyes Avan." Avan could feel her inches from him and feel her breath caress his lips. Hear her breathe. He couldn't stop thinking about how she said he could taste her. That's what he wanted right now. But more than that he wanted to see her. He was afraid if he opened his eyes he would ruin everything. he just wanted that kiss, needed that kiss.
Once again Jane whispered, "Don't open your eyes Avan." Then she touched her lips to his as soft as a feather. Avan kept his eyes closed. The feel of her lips on his made him shudder. She felt him move and pushed harder on his lips, moving closer to him. He moved to put his arms around her, but she gripped them and held them in place. She pushed harder and harder on his lips, so hard that he was sure he would start bleeding if she dind't stop. Oh how he wanted that kiss. Needed that kiss. He would never ask her to stop. Never want her to stop, but she did, and whispered once again, " Don't open your eyes."
After that kiss Avan longed to open his eyes and look at Jane, but she told him not to. She stood up and started circling him again. She circled him twice than started to speak again. "You can feel me in this room. Feel me next to you. You can hear me and now you have tasted me. Did you like it? Did you enjoy the pain I caused you when I touched you?" He did enjoy it, but the way she spoke now, it didn't sound normal. It sounded darker.
Avan called out Jane's name and begged, "Please, can I open my eyes now? Janey, let me see you."
"That's what you want the most, isn't Avan? You've felt me, heard me, and tasted me. Now all you want is to see me."
Avan was really starting to freak out so when he answered, his voice shook. "Ye..yes." Jane stopped walking and was quiet for a second. Still Avan refused to open his eyes until she said he could. He felt a breeze on his ear as she whispered,
"Open your eyes."
When he did, he saw that he was all alone in the room. That was impossible, thought Avan. She was here. I know she was. How did she whisper in my ear like that and not even be in the room? I felt her breath, I could hear her as clear as day even though she whispered. And that kiss. "Jane," said Avan. It came out as a whispered question.
"Avan." Another whisper, and this time he felt the breath on his neck and spun around. Nothing. "Avan!" It was so loud. It was like she was yelling in his ear and she wasn't even there. "Are you scared, Avan?"
"Yes."
"Why? I'm here. Can't you hear me?"
"Yes."
"Can't you feel me?" he could. He definitely could. "Can't you still taste me?"
"Yes."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I can't see you, and that's..." as Avan finished the last of his sentence Jane spoke at the same time.
"The scariest part."
