"Stiles and Kira said it was the Nemeton that kept it trapped," Scott tells Deaton as they, along with Lydia, walk into the examination room.
"The problem is this isn't even a person you're fighting," Deaton explains. "It just looks like one. It's a spirit that's taken the shape of a human."
"The shape of my best friend," Scott mutters.
"Someone caught it once. Someone can do it again, right?" Lydia asks.
"I don't know. This thing was trapped a long time ago before the Nemeton was cut down. It doesn't have the same power anymore," Deaton says.
"Is there anything that does?" Scott questions.
"Possibly. When the tree was whole, its wood was sometimes used to contain powerful objects. But those objects are very rare."
"Wait a second. Powerful objects? Like an Alpha's claws?" Lydia asks, an idea forming in her mind.
"Which Alpha?"
"Talia Hale. Peter had them in this wooden box with a triskele carved on the lid. What if it was made from the Nemeton?" Lydia theorizes.
"It was," Deaton says softly.
"How do you know?" Scott asks.
"Because I made it," Deaton admits.
"I'll call Derek, tell him to meet us," Scott says, digging out his phone.
"We don't need Derek." Lydia scoffs. "We have Emma."
Scott freezes, looking back at Lydia. "Emma's not with us right now."
"Yes, she is!" Lydia insists. "I don't care what you think, but she knew about Peter's dilemma with the claws. She obviously knows where it is—"
"If she wanted to help us, she would have." Scott snaps. He remembers her expression when that sword was pushed through Allison's chest. It wasn't shock, it wasn't pain— it was nothing. No emotion, she just stared.
"She is helping!" Lydia tells him, looking between the two men. "She's been helping the entire time! Why don't you believe me?"
"Because she helped him kill Allison," Scott whispers. Lydia flinches at the mention of her friend. She stays silent, unsure if she should tell the two men what she found out when she went into Stiles' head. "She's still there, I know it, but, for now, we can't focus on her. We have to focus on the Nogitsune."
Voices suddenly start to whisper, making Lydia's eyes close. She stumbles back, only to be caught by Scott. "What's wrong?" Deaton asks.
"Something's happening. I had this sudden rushing feeling like we're running out of time," Lydia says.
"Yeah." They turn to see Kira carrying in a weak Stiles. "Yeah, I kind of got that feeling, too."
======
"Did you bring us a present?" The Nogitsune coos, watching as Derek and the twins walk forward, the trickle box in Derek's hand.
"I brought two," Derek growls before noticing a missing person. "Where's Emma?"
"The little Elemental's loyalty was...compromised" The Nogitsune chuckles darkly.
"What'd you do to her?" Derek demands, confused by the protectiveness he feels.
"Don't worry. She's fine." The Nogitsune pauses. "Though, she might not be for long," Derek growls, setting the box on the ground. "I've heard of an Alpha pack, Derek, but not a pack of former Alphas? It's a little sad, isn't it?"
