Despite his attempts to pretend otherwise, James grappled with the realization that he might be falling for Elodie. The intense jealousy he felt whenever she conversed with other males was a clear sign. He found it increasingly difficult to ignore these feelings.

James often glanced at Elodie in class, noting how she was never without a male partner. It became a pet peeve of his. He increasingly took issue with the constant stream of male companions she seemed to have.

As time went on, he began to observe something else: it appeared Elodie primarily spent time with males from her own house. She rarely seemed to associate with other girls.

James couldn't shake off the unease he felt. The thought of Elodie spending so much time with other males, and seemingly avoiding other girls, left him restless.

He couldn't help but wonder what was going through her mind. The more he observed her interactions, the more he felt protective and possessive.

Regardless, as for Elodie, she had no issues with befriending girls; however, recently she'd been avoiding girls in her house for a different reason. The endless questions about her relationship with James and their secretiveness had become irritating. So, to avoid any further discussion, she deliberately spent more time with male friends.

James was not aware of the reason behind Elodie's behaviour, which only heightened his suspicion and jealousy.

As Elodie grew up in a household almost exclusively composed of males with a constantly absent mother, she'd never fully adjusted to easily integrating with females. It wasn't that she hadn't made attempts, rather, she naturally gravitated towards the company of males, finding it more appealing than the social nuances and formalities often associated with girl friendships.

She struggled to connect with girls who seemed overly concerned with appearances, particularly those inclined to follow the feminine stereotypes. Consequently, rather than pushing herself to fit in with peers, Elodie generally opted to stick to the familiar company of males.

It was precisely for this reason that it proved challenging for Elodie to shut down the gossiping girls; she lacked confidence and experience in managing them effectively. Meanwhile, the male friends were better equipped to handle such situations due to their familiarity and comfort in doing so.

Of course, gossiping occurred irrespective of gender, but it was far easier for Elodie to handle conversations with males compared to her interactions with females.

On an evening a few weeks later, Elodie took a seat at the Gryffindor table beside Fred, who was accompanied by his family, except for James, who was currently serving detention. Realizing this as an opportunity, she seized the opportunity to broach a subject that had been weighing on her mind. "Alright," Elodie declared, her attention focused on the Weasley family, "I need an answer from all of you." Without hesitation, she continued, "What in Merlin's name is wrong with James?"
