Hehe please bare with me this is my first piece! Before you read, I wanna clarify that Zoro & Sanji are both 18 and in their senior year of high school.
Sanji has been raised by Zeff! And Zoro is the son of Mihawk! It wasn't supposed to rain, in fact that was the opposite of what the weather forecast had said. Under his breath Sanji, who was now completely soaked, cursed weatherman and Zeff. The old bastard had told him he could walk to school because "it would be warm and sunny", so much for that, he thought bitterly. Gritting his teeth he wrapped his arms around himself. The rain seemed to be picking up the intensity as he walked nearer to the school. Being wet wasn't what bothered him. No, it was the fact that his nicely ironed uniform was now soaked, and his hair was surely a mess. On top of that, all of his work and school books were now soaked along with him. He could only pray his teachers would give him a pass on his soaked school work. Sanji sprinted the rest of the way to school trying to duck under any cover he could find.
"Oi, Shit Cook!" He barely took a step into the building and a voice from behind called to him. Sanji cringed, of course he just had to run into him this morning.
"What do you want Marimo?" In all honesty he didn't have the energy to get into a fight with Zoro. Jogging up next to him, Zoro settled into step with Sanji.
"Go swimming before school?" Zoro, who was completely dry, smirked at the blonde. He couldn't help himself. Sanji continued to stare straight ahead ignoring him. Well that is until he made that comment. Blue eyes were now glaring at him, and it made Zoro's heart skip a beat. He only antagonized the other boy to get his attention, otherwise Sanji never paid attention to him. It's not like he took particular enjoyment out of pushing the cooks buttons, okay maybe he did enjoy it a little bit. But only a little bit.
"Screw off." Sanji spat back breaking eye contact as he turned to walk away, and it was Zoro's que to back off. Small puddles of water formed in Sanji's wake as they dripped off of him. Zoro cursed under his breath, all he could do was stare at the blonde. The white uniform shirt was now mostly translucent and clung to Sanji's pale torso showing almost every detail that was usually hidden by the clothes. Sanji had almost reached the door to his class before Zoro called out again.
"Sanji wait," Sanji had half a mind to ignore the green haired boy, but Zoro never used his first name. By the time Sanji had decided to listen to what he had to say Zoro was already behind him.
"What now? I don't want to be late." The cook sounded more upset than he did annoyed, standing with his back still to Zoro. Part of Zoro was grateful he didn't have to see the cooks face at the moment. His heart was pounding so wildly in his chest he prayed Sanji couldn't hear it. He felt awful about the soaked state of the other boy, but it's not like he had an extra change of clothes on him.
With his hand still restesting on the door handle, and Sanji's teeth chattered slightly as he waited for whatever was about to come. He really wasn't in the mood for games, especially Zoros. Not when the wet cold was seeping into his bones, making every part of him impossibly cold. And on top of that, the school had the air conditioning going. He was almost certain he would be in a hypothermic state soon.Taking a step closer to Sanji, Zoro removed his jacket placing it on the blondes shoulder before walking away. It was all he could offer the blonde. Not that he wanted to part with the jacket, but Sanji needed it more than he did at the moment. And he trusted him.
"You'll catch a cold." Zoro said simply. Sanji turned around to protest but Zoro was already walking into his classroom across the hall. Did he think Sanji was weak? Zoro never did anything nice, at least not to him. So this wasn't something he wouldn't have done out of the pureness of his heart right? Either way, there was nothing he could do about it now. Shrugging, he pulled his arms into the sleeves, tugging the coat tightly around him as he entered his classroom.
The jacket was already warm, from the previous body heat in it, and he couldn't help but snuggle into it. A light cologne smell enveloped him, drawing a content hum from his lips. Zoro's jacket was big on him and for once he was grateful for Zoro being larger than him. Not that he would ever tell him that. In fact, as soon as class was over he was marching next door and giving the jacket back. But for now he could decided it wouldn't hurt to enjoy the jacket.
Sanji took a moment to think about the jacket. In fact there wasn't a day that he could recall that Zoro didn't have this jacket with him. The green haired idiot always had the jacket with him. And somewhere inside, it made him feel a little special. The jacket was a gift from someone in Zoro's past or something like that. Sanji really didn't know the details behind it. All he knew was Zoro was protective of the jacket that was wrapped around him.
Class was over before he knew it. Sanji mentally scolded himself, the whole lesson had passed without him realizing. That idiot didn't even have to be around him to mess with him. Sighing Sanji grabbed his stuff from his desk, shoving it into his bag.
Part of him was hesitant to give the jacket back. The thought of the cold air on his damp clothes made him shiver. But there was no way he was keeping the Marimo's jacket. Sanji walked out of his classroom, stripping himself from the jacket, and waited for Zoro to excited the classroom. Seemingly all the students had filed out of the door, Luffy lagged behind as Nami dragged him out the door.
"SAanjiii- " The raven haired boy cried the second he saw him. "Sanjiii Make ME FOOd!"
"Ignore him, he ate the whole class period." Nami shushed her boyfriend despite his protests.
"AHhh my dear Nami, looking beautiful as ever. I'm sorry to bother you but have either of you seen Zoro? I didn't see him leave. Did he get lost on his way out of the classroom?"
"What do you need with Zoro?" Nami eyed him suspiciously taking note of Zoro's jacket the blonde held at his side. But that wasn't even the strangest part Sanji had used Zoro's name, and not one of his many nicknames for him.
"Nothing really just," Sanji struggled to find the words for why he was seeking out the other boy. He couldn't find an excuse, and he did not want to look like the Marimo's charity case. "Need to talk to him."
"Sanji?" Luffy's voice caught him off guard.
"Yes Luffy?" Sanji turned to face Luffy, finding the boys head cocked to the side as he inspected the jacket in Sanji's hand.
"Why do you have Zoro's jacket?" A gentle blush covered the cooks cheeks, well there was no skirting around the truth now.
"Um," Sanji swallowed, he was embarrassed with their attention was intently on him. He shouldn't care right it was just a jacket. "Cause he gave it to me this morning-"
"Ehh?! He won't even let me near it!" Luffy cried out, cutting Sanji off with a pout on his face. The blush on Sanji's cheeks deepend, Zoro didn't even let his best friend touch this jacket. Subconsciously, his grip increased on the jacket, while a million things raced through his mind.
"But Zoro has his Iaido* tournament today. His coach is finally letting him try his supposed three sword style in competition." Nami added rolling her eyes with a coy smile as if she knew exactly what was running through the cooks head.
"Yeah! We are going after school! It's gonna be so cool." Luffy added with a big grin. "You should come too Sanji! Zoro, would love it if you came!"
'Zoro, would love it if you came.' The words echoed in the cooks head. Why did he care, I mean he didn't, right? A loud smack quickly followed by an ouch from Luffy, whose hand had been caught trying to sneak a snack from Nami's bag, interrupted Sanji's train of thought. Nami glared at her boyfriend, who was once again pouting over not being able to have food.
"You should come though Sanji. Plus, you can give Zoro his jacket back afterwards." Nami smiled despite herself, she knew it wasn't her place to interfere between them. But they were the single most stubborn, oblivious people she knew, well besides Luffy that is. All she was doing was just giving them a little push in the right direction.
