Erin's POV
People say that when you're thirteen, you turn a certain age to do certain things. And since I was turning in two weeks, I was ecstatic. Being thirteen meant a lot to me. Since I was 3/4 asian, my parents were much more, how shall I say, disciplined than most and I was restrained a lot from the outside world. I love my parents, don't get me wrong, but sometimes, they are just too restricting and I really hate that. Being able to be on my own most of the times now were the greatest perks of thirteen year olds.
That morning, I awoke to my mother calling me from downstairs,
"Erin! Breakfast is ready!"
"Ughh," I moaned, not wanting to wake up.
Too bad she never heard me.
So instead, she went upstairs to my bedroom and barged right in causing a ruckus which then make me get up with a start.
"Wake up," said my mom as she went back downstairs again.
How I despise her sometimes. I sighed deeply and picked up my phone. Seeing 3 text messages, one from my cousin asking me when I was coming to visit and the other two from my best friend Drew who had been bothering me about her new make-up product she got. Yes they were both 13 which made me feel very infuriour. I quickly replied to both messages, got my clothes, and went to my bathroom for a shower.
After my shower, I finally went down to eat my breakfast, but bumped into my father who was always busy with work.
"Hey Dad," I said.
"Hello Erin," he replied not exactly looking pleased. He always seemed to find a flaw in me everytime I came across him around the house. It was incred hard to gain his approval.
"You look e-er nice today."
I was thoroughly shocked. Did he just tell me a compliment? That was new.
"Thanks Dad," I beamed.
"Pull down your shorts a little."
"Okay," I blushed lightly as I did what he said.
Way to be a buzzkill Dad. Eating breakfast went by pretty quick and soon my mom was driving me to Papertrain. I tuned the radio to 104.3 MyFm and soon enough, I was singing along to by .
As my mom's car pulled in. I saw Drew and her older brother Andy who was an 8th grader, come out of their mom's car and wave to me. I quickly got out of the car, went to the trunk for my backpack, and scurried across the yard to where they were waiting for me.
As my mom pulled out of the parking lot, I gasped for breath.
"Hey guys."
"Hey Erin," said Andy nodding his head.
"Erin!" exclaimed Drew. "OMG! You have to come with me to the bathroom!"
"Uh," I said trailing off not knowing what to say as she took ahold of my arm. Andy gave me a hopeful smile as he walked away.
"I'll see you guys later!"
"Bye!" said Drew and I just nodded my head as she commanded me. "Come on."
We entered the bathroom after going to our lockers to get out books for 1st period, to find it empty which was accordingly "good" for us. Drew started to squeal as she took something out of her jean pocket. I could tell it was, going to be her new make-up set so when she brought it out I was clearly not that surprised. She started to apply it.
"Come on Erin! Put some on," she told me.
"I can't," I stated as a matter of fact.
"Oh yeah," she said remembering of wht my parents said about no make-up until I was thirteen. "At least it's in two weeks. Then I'll show you the ropes and we can start boy hunting together!"
Looking at boys was another thing I couldn't do till I was 13. You might be thinking, Wow! This girl has way too many rules. And it's true.
I waited as Drew finished and then we made to class just in time before the bell rang. Since Drew and I shared all our classes, we practically sat next to each other in each one. Then in lunch, we sit with Andy's group if friends and since we were the only girls to sit with a group of guys that were 8th graders, we gained some respect.
By the end of the day, I was worned out and my dad came to pick me up and by the time we got home, I was busy the rest of the night with homework, dinner, and then sleep.
That night, I prayed that my two weeks would go faster, and that I could turn 13 already. But who knew that God actually heard my call?
