Willow's POV

I ran down the dark street, my black boots hitting the wet pavement. I could feel the cold metal of a gun pressed against my side, but I didn't want to pull it out yet. I looked around the dark streets. I was alone, but not for long. They would be here soon.

I smashed the window of an abandoned building and slipped inside. How had it come to this?

1 Month Earlier

"Willow!" Amber called as she skipped towards me. She was my best friend, and had been for a long time.

"Hey Amber!" I smiled.

"Aren't you glad it's Friday? I can finally watch the new episode of Sherlock!"

"I know! I'm watching it as soon as I get home."

"Awesome! I'll text you about it when I finish the episode!"

"Okay Amber. I'll talk to you later."

I grabbed my backpack from my locker and closed it. I walked from the school building and drove home in my car.

"Willow! Is that you?" my Mother called when I opened the door.

"Hey Mom!" I chuckled. She asked if it was me everyday, even though she knew the answer. My dad only gets home around 6:00, not 3:30.

I tossed my backpack onto the couch and turned on the TV. The last thing I wanted to do was miss Sherlock.

Much to my surprise, the TV was turned to the news instead of my mother's usual cooking show or home decor channel.

"Mom, did you turn to the news?" I asked.

"No... why?"

My mother walked down the stairs and leaned on the back of the couch as she watched the screen. She had curlers in her black hair, and she absent-mindedly braided my chocolate brown hair as she watched.

"Everyone, please leave the city. It's too dangerous to stay here. Scientists believe that this is the beginning of the apocalypse that was predicted to happen," said the news reporter. Her breathing was sharp and her eyes were darting around as she said this, probably in a panic.

"Willow, grab backpacks, canned food, and fill every single water bottle we own. We're going to get your father," my mother said, standing straight. "We need to leave."

A/N: Hello everyone!

I am writing this short story as an English project in school. At most, it will be four parts. Enjoy!
